Two Australians are murdered by militia in West Papua, the only survivor being Jan Roth (Anthony LaPaglia), the fugitive founder of "dark web" site UndaCounta. Roth's panicked phone call brings him to the attention of Australian authorities, who approach Ned and Jesse Banks at their mother's funeral to seek their assistance in finding and arresting Roth. The Australian Federal Police threaten them with deportation to the United States for their previous actions, but Jesse volunteers to help when informed that a young boy, Callum, has been kidnapped by someone behind the site to be sold as a sex slave. With the encouragement of the government's cyber ops chief, Lara Dixon (Sigrid Thornton), who runs a private cyber company, Vertex, Jesse gains Roth's trust by offering him the decryption keys to the parliamentary network and the identities of several undercover intelligence officers. Roth agrees to meet him in Far North Queensland, and Jesse takes Hani with him to hand over the files, however Roth eludes the police team watching them and takes Jesse and Hani onto his boat to return to West Papua.

Episode 2
54 mins
Roth brings Jesse and Hani to his compound in the jungles of West Papua, where he asks for their help to decrypt a file on his server. Desperate for news of his brother, Ned contacts a former girlfriend in Parliament House to acquire the names of the two murdered Australians, which he then links to photographer and activist Meg Flynn, who is working covertly for a large Australian mining company in Papua. Flynn tells Ned to stop contacting her as he is risking her cover, but later lets him know that Jesse is alive. Roth, Flynn, Jesse and Hani go to the morgue to view the body of a colleague who has been killed and framed for the murder of the Australians. As they leave, they are attacked by gunmen on motorbikes. Escaping into the jungle, Jesse goes into a catatonic state, but Roth carries him to safety. Trusting Roth more, Jesse tells him about the hidden paedophila forum on his site, and Roth seems genuinely shocked by the revelation. Returning to Australia, Roth's boat is intercepted by an Australian border patrol, and he convinces Jesse to jump into the water with him to "find the kid", Callum.

Episode 3
56 mins
Racing to Australia in part to save Roth's brother-in-law Remsey from danger, Jesse and Roth were last seen leaping into the water as Border Patrol raided their vessel. As leader of a non-violent independence movement Remsey is being blamed for the murder of the Australian surfers, and with a member of his group found dead at the attack site, the local police claimed it was politically motivated terrorism against the mine - and the surfers fired back. Roth is black with rage that his site was used as a forum for paedophiles and he and Jesse are also desperate to find Callum before it's too late. Determined that his 2IC Gary will pay, things go horribly south and the trail to Callum is lost. With Jesse still missing, Ned contacts a photojournalist at the mine, but Meg Flynn is using the mine job as a cover to gain access to the political hotspot, and doesn't need Ned exposing her intentions. The trail delivers more questions than answers, but what's clear is that Roth is on the radar of some of the most powerful organisations in the world, and the attack on his car in West Papua, and the death of his two 'friends' was more than just a random act - Jesse finds himself back within the intelligence community who are running the digital dragnet over every shred of evidence in a last ditch effort to save Callum. And then a clue arrives from a most unexpected source. They finally have the name of the man who is on his way to collect the boy - can they get there in time?

Episode 4

Ned, Jesse and Meg flee Australia and fly to West Papua, where they head to Roth's compound. Minister Baxter tries to make amends for her daughter missing out on a university course by approaching the university - she is rebuffed but is later surprised to hear her daughter has not only got a place in the course, but a scholarship as well. Hani is approached by her ex-boyfriend who now works for Vertex, and has been asked by Lara Dixon to get her help in finding Jesse. Roth gets Jesse stoned and drunk, and together the two gain the decryption keys for the Kaspion program from the U.S. government. Ned heads into town with Roth's wife to cover a protest over Marcus' treatment. As the protest heats up and police and/or security start firing, Roth's wife phones him and asks him to pick up their daughter, and as he arrives, she is shot in front of him.

Episode 5
56 mins
Roth's wife, Kiki is bleeding out in his arms - and unless they can get help she's going to die right there on the street. The nearest first world medical team is attached to the mine, but with Meg's cover blown, there are dangers involved - but they have to try. Kiki is still alive as they scream at the mine's security guards to let them in - but as the life drains out of her, Roth stares up at the CCTV camera, declaring his presence. Now they all know he's here. He wants them to know. As Roth descends into a vortex of boiling rage and alcohol fuelled grief, Jesse is caught between his genuine care for this man and his desire to save his own future. Thanks to him, the stolen files that locate weaknesses in computer networks anywhere in the world - backdoors, through which you can enter, spy, steal - or destroy - are now operational. And Jesse has unwittingly put this into the hands of one of the world's most newly dangerous men. Ned and Meg are trying to work out the connection between the Remsey being blamed for the original attack on Roth and his colleagues, and the question of who was actually responsible. The trail of politically inconvenient truths and deliberate 'redireions' will lead them right to the desk of Foreign Minister Marina Baxter. Now it's about whether she will trade in her conscience for a political future, or whether she'll help Ned find, and then most dangerously, expose the truth.

Episode 6
54 mins
As Jan Roth buries his wife in the remote hills of her ancestors, his grief settles into something harder. He has a new, more sharply focused plan - one where he will need Jesse's help. As Jesse wrestles with whether he can truly betray this man he has come to care for, his own love is being targeted. Hani has been offered an impossible choice - she can save her lover or her father, but not both. Jesse has been cooking up his own plans to save them all, but he can only do it alone. And he will need to dig deeper than ever before to pull it off. He cuts the cord with Ned and apparently throws in his lot with Roth - the question will be whether he can make either of them truly believe him. Roth's determination to make the world see what has been done is set, and a target has been chosen: a list of significant guests, including a Foreign Minister and a good dose of stakeholders in the pillage of foreign resources are gathered. Roth is ready to show the world what it feels like to be brutalised and powerless to stop it. Ned, Meg and Hani are engaged in their own desperate struggle to get the evidence to back up what they know is true, in order to print the story of a cover-up and conspiracy those in power are desperate to keep hidden. As the situation drags on and hostages are injured, Jesse must answer the question once and for all - whether violent means can deliver peaceful ends.
