Selina Scott , Jeff Banks , Caryn Franklin and Lucy Pilkington present this weeks episode of The Clothes Show. In Bristol, Dr Barnardo's latest venture is to make money and provide employment by updating second-hand clothes. In London, Barnardo's most famous old boy Bruce Oldfield presents his new collection at a charity gala with HRH The Princess of Wales among the guests. The scissors are out in this year's battle for the title of 'Hairdresser of the Year' and there's the patter of little feet.

China Silk

According to Confucius it was a young Chinese princess who made the discovery over 2,000 years ago which has since brought great riches to China. From silk worms in Hangzhou to silk pyjamas in Shanghai, Jeff Banks tells the story of the world's most luxurious fabric. He goes shopping in the 'biggest department store in Beijing', while at the Great Wall is a spectacular fashion shoot.

Irish Linen

Scutching, retting and beetling are just three of the stages in the manufacture of linen. Jeff Banks travels to Northern Ireland, for many years the home of Britain's linen industry. He meets the McConville brothers, who are hoping to re-introduce the commercial growing of flax to the Province; and designer Paul Costelloe, who is well known for his use of this unique fabric in his collections.

Thirty-two young people chosen from nationwide auditions arrive at Bournemouth International Centre for the finals of this year's model competition. Photographer John Swannell , hairdresser of the year Anthony Mascolo of Toni and Guy, and Beth Boldt and Annette Russell of Synchro Models are the judges.
