A teacher from a wealthy family in the East travels out West to teach in a small coal mining town.

Emily Lane has recently moved to the small town of Forest Grove NY where she owns and operates Under the Mistletoe, a year 'round Christmas store. This outwardly quiet life belies her secret past, she having moved there to escape that past. She is finding that regardless of wanting to hide from that past, she can't help but insert herself into troublesome situations especially when it comes to murders in town. She also finds that she rides a fine line in hiding that past as she does her own research about "Chimera" who would be out to get her if they knew where she was, and as she begins a friendship/romantic relationship with Sam Wilner, the town's police detective.
