Aa Kyra and Imogen attend a sleepover at Lily's, Darra, guided by a small orb, conducts a search through a crowded street market in Bangkok, Thailand. His search leads him to a crated cobra statue in a magical warehouse. When the statue attacks, its purple tentacles also cross the globe to snatch Kyra at her sleepover. As Imogen and Lily teleport to the magical library to search for references to purple tentacles, Darra and Kyra run from two agents, one a fairy, the other an elf.

A Dangerous Secret

Darra's intrigue in Bangkok, Thailand, coincides with Prof. Maxwell reopening the Eastern Magic Section of the Magical Library. As Darra opens up his secret to Kyra (a personal quest for the Temple of the Purple Lotus set off by a beach bum elf), others in the Bureau of Magical Things investigate a continuing rash of animated drawings, which Imogem thinks are linked to a new cafe waitress). Within the Golden Palace Markets of Bangkok, Kyra acquires the first of three keys.

Fortuna's Compact

To keep from closing, the Gangway Cafe entertains the idea of having live music, which gets Peter thinking about his talented but shy friend, Ben Reid, showcasing his music. Lily's fairy crush on human Ben turns her orange. Meanwhile, the secret of Tayla's success lies in a magical compact that grants wishes. Unfortunately it winds up in the hands of Mathilde, who is unaware of mistakenly turning Darra into a rat.

The Big Sneeze

Darro recklessly opens a sealed magical snuffbox, releasing a centuries-old magical virus that causes itching and sneezing. Each sneeze causes a random teleportation of either objects or people, such as Mathilda into the Magical Library when Kyra sneezes. Meanwhile, Imogen discovers the identity of the frog designer (Tayla), who doesn't give a fig about rules of the DMI.

Welcome to The Jungle

Unable to pursue information on lost temples directly, Darra pulls Kyra into his investigation of the cobra statue, leading to the journal of Magnus Sorenson and calling for another visit to Thailand to seek out the second key. Lily learns that Imogen has withheld the identity of Tayla as the animated graffiti artist, which leads Imogen into learning more about Tayla's personal history.

Mirror Image

As Peter begins to digitize contents of the magical library, Prof. Maxwell introduces Tayla to it. Before he leaves to attend other matters, he assigns the group to clean magical residue from the town park. As Kyra excuses herself to nursemaid her sick father, Imogen and Tayla crack a magical mirror, which creates an evil duplicate of Tayla that doesn't soon fade out of existence. Erelong, most of the group fall victim to its wrath.

Testing Times

Failing to study for an imminent math test, Peter begs Rusky for magical aid, which she won't give. As the magical beings head out to a magical botanical tour, Peter remains behind for a solution on his own and gets stuck in the magical library, missing the test entirely. Exploring his surroundings, he discovers an enchanted tuxedo that gives him super speed, but his actions also release a deep sea diving entity that seeks revenge on whoever wears the unremovable suit. These actions cross too many lines for Ruksy to ignore.

Almost Famous

Lily meant well when she cast a spell on a video of Ben that didn't quite gel. And so it befell those viewing their cell to break out in song and think Ben rather swell. To dispel the spell one needs to peel a charmed bell and quell the crazed fandom making shy Ben's life hell.
Episode 9
The Key to the Past

Following parent/teacher conferences, Imogen, Ruksy, Lily and Peter deal with a magical odor outbreak (and relationship problems). Meanwhile, Darra and Kyra go rogue, traveling backwards in time to see if Magnus Sorenson (seeker of the Lost Temple of the Purple Lotus) had a second journal. Getting caught and stuck in the past weren't part of their plan.
Episode 10
The Message

Without understanding all of what Magnus Sorenson bespeaks in his journal, and under a time constraint as well, the Bureau (all but Rusky) decides to jump into the "treasure hunt" of finding the Lost Temple of the Purple Lotus. While Kyra has doubts about the wisdom of the reckless venture, Rusky is dead set against it and, as the Bureau confronts a few deadly obstacles, decides it's time to get the professor involved.
Episode 11
The Enchanted Wood

Sean suspends Professor Maxwell (taking the blame for the Bureau's recent actions) and replaces him at the Library with magical archaeologist Dr. Apinya Surinat while the DMI investigates. Her first action is to bar Peter, a mere human, from the Library, but that doesn't deter the others from including him on a trip to an enchanted forest inside a book to gather enchanted wood for Ladder's repair. Once inside, a spoiled little princess tasks the Bureau with finding her castle.
Episode 12
Liar, Liar

With Professor Maxwell away answering questions at the DMI tribunal, the Bureau hunts an invasive magical bug whose bite compels those bitten to tell the truth. Lily, unfortunately, gets stung on her first date with Ben. Deliberately trying to lie only elongates her nose. Meanwhile, Kyra, feeling compelled to own up on her own, lends Maxwell moral support before his hearing.
Episode 13
Let the Games Begin

As the Bureau (sans Peter) competes in the Magic School Sports Day against their unsportsmanly Crowther School rivals, Professor Maxwell studies the journal of Magnus Sorenson and makes an illegal visit to the the Magical Library for research. His later actions with two of the keys cause a vortex to form around Kyra at the competition, who's already drawn negative attention just for being a Tri-ling.

New Tricks

Wagering which of them will learn the other's type of magic in a day, Imogen seeks how to magically merge while Lily investigates how to prank. Meanwhile, Prof. Maxwell, Kyra and Darra bring Apinya in on their dealings with the keys to the Lost Temple. While Prof. Maxwell urges caution, Apinya pushes Kyra into a psychic recollection that gets dangerous.
Episode 15
Party Time

As the Bureau helps Mathilda pull off her surprise birthday party for Kyra, Mathilda's cake gets ruined. Lily's magical recreation causes everyone who eats from it to turn into a life-size living representation of its decorative ornaments. Dr. Surinat, meanwhile, tricks Kyra into using Orb magic to come closer to finding the third key.
Episode 16
Revelations

With an appeal to reinstate Prof. Maxwell in the works, Dr. Surinat's desperation to find the third key increases. Imogen questions the circumstances around the recently escaped swarm. A veiled threat from Dr. Surinat only increases suspicion. Darra, meanwhile, hopes to make a good impression on Kyra's father over lunch. He's simply a nice boy until Steve learns he's the son of the biggest property developer in River City, making Darra town royalty. Sharing family photos brings a startling revelation, which Prof. Maxwell deems prudent to keep between Kyra, Darra and himself. Back at the library, Imogen and Lily test a theory.
Episode 17
The Heist

As suspicion falls on Dr. Surinat's motives, the Bureau unifies in seeking the Third Key. Dr. Surinat comes clean in finally proclaiming the intent of her secret organization, but being secretive goes on a little too long to keep Kyra out of danger when the third key is found.
Episode 18
Beginning of the End

Crisis. With Kyra's Orb magic drained away to activate the Lotus, Dr. Surinat rejoins her unit and Prof. Maxwell is reinstated. As its cobra statue spews purple goo into a cauldron, the Lotus disrupts the magical world, forcing fairy wands to perform magic on their own. Elf magic is useless, and only Kyra, a Tri-ling, can control the rampant outbreaks. Apinya returns to entreat Kyra's help, but Kyra, lied to and manipulated, already has trust issues with her. Kyra ponders her birth father while elves and fairies fear living without magic. The Purple Lotus rises. Kyra readies to fight it.
Episode 19
A Desperate Plan

As the Purple Lotus drinks in all the fairy dust in the world, affecting both fairy and elf magic, only Tri-ling magic remains untouched. Seeking an "off switch" to the Purple Lotus, the Bureau uses the Temporalis to visit Magnus Sorenson at his private fund-raising soiree in 1919 and take his Lost Temple documents (excluding Lily and Rusky whose wings might pop out, but including Peter wearing the enchanted super-speed tuxedo of Agent Swift, which only gets him mistaken for a waiter at the party).
Episode 20
No More Secrets

As Kyra pledges service to Magnus Sorenson towards shutting down the Purple Lotus in the past, Dr. Apinya Surinat tries shutting down the giant growing flower in the present by unleashing the highly dangerous, nearly uncontrollable Shadowcloud. All efforts lead Kyra toward making the ultimate sacrifice to save the magical world of elves and fairies. Things will never be the same afterward.
