Its the Griffins 20th wedding anniversary. Vinny brings them an appropriate gift of china (a leopard). The family, minus Jodie, are going out to celebrate with Vinny. While they are gone the Griffins' home is cleared out by burglars. Tom Gold and his wife perform at the Half Moon, a low down night club with bad acts including a .hypnotist. Tom appears to drink too much and his pop singer wife encourages him to perform because they " need the money." He could have made it big. All his friends got record deals and made it into orchestras. He is left with these night club acts and teaching private classes. The next morning , still effected by the night before and prodded by his wife because they "need the money," he goes off to teach a lesson and on the way plays a pop tape in his car and drives himself into a commercial truck at a high rate of speed. His wife just increased the life insurance to 150,000 pounds. Griffin is assigned the case. On the home claim, Frank is investigating Griffins' claim and trying to pouch all his staff as Godzilla won't assign any new work to Griffin while his claim is pending.
