His friend Woods is heading a Federal task force investigating the union's finances. The mob knows about this and plans to pump the casino's profits back into the union books, at least temporarily. Jack decides to bankrupt the casino and leave its bosses hung out to dry. He goes to a computer company and has it manufacture microchips which say the name and denomination of all 52 cards in a playing deck. Then he goes to the company which manufactures the cards (in huge sheets) and has workers affix the microchips to the backs of all of the cards in the next shipment of decks. Then he obtains a listening device which can be implanted in his eyeglasses (and when the mobsters smash them suspecting him of being a card reader, he switches to contact lenses, with no indication of how he now hears the voice). Then he goes into the casino and plays blackjack hour by hour, systematically winning. The mobsters keep watching him but can never figure out how he does it, although they temporarily distract him with a crooked dealer who can switch cards, and with a hired "escort." Meanwhile Jack sends his own cards to the casino boss, one by one.
