After not seeing him in two years, Sam Winchester is suddenly visited by his big brother Dean, who insists that Sam helps him to look for their father John, who disappeared on his latest 'hunt' for a poltergeist. Sam accepts only after his brother promises him that he'll be back in time for a crucial interview. They trace their father's tracks for 'The Woman in White', a spirit of a wife who killed her own children after finding out her husband committed adultery and now haunts and kills unfaithful men. She even attacks Sam, who is loyal to his girlfriend. Luckily Dean, who needed nothing more than a paper-clip to escape from police arrest -they used faked identities- and carry off their dad's notes, arrives just in time. Sam decides to go back to Jessica and his "normal life", but the welcome changes his life forever.

Sam meets the drifter Meg, who is also hitchhiking to California on the road, and stays with her waiting for a bus in the bus station. Dean discloses that a pagan god is demanding sacrifices in a fertility ritual in the annual cycle of killings with the support of the locals and a creepy scarecrow. When Dean and a local girl are offered to the scarecrow, Sam returns to help them.

When the truck threatens Cassie, her Caucasian mother Mrs. Robinson tells a tragic racist murder that happened thirty years ago, and the brothers realize that they have to fight against a hatred spirit in a ghost truck.

To the boys' horror dad accepts, but explains to them he'll bring an ordinary antique instead, to win time while they stay behind and kill the demon when he attacks the innocent family, but split up they'll all be in grave danger...
