As Superboy tries to return Luthor, he and an alternate Dr. Winger attack him with kryptonite.

Lana and Luthor, lovers in this world, are leading a revolution to overthrow the Sovereign. Lana arms herself with kryptonite bomb to destroy the Sovereign, hurting both versions of Superboy. But when she sets off the bomb, killing them both, the first alternate Superboy rescues the original Superboy from the kryptonite-laden shockwave. When all is done, Superboy destroys the portal.

He helps Superboy and postulates that the reason why he and the ones he encountered and the one he met who is still a boy arrived on their Earth's at different times is because of space warps. Superboy discovers this version of himself seems content to no longer having to be a hero. He tells Superboy he needs to go back to his universe but he says he needs to go back and help his younger version from being influenced by Luthor.
