After an encounter with a demon, a skeptical nurse and ex-scientist named Jude meets the depressed and mysterious John Strange. Strange was once a priest, but now searches for demons hiding in the world. Standing in his way is Canon Black, a shifty character with unknown motives. With Jude's knowledge and her newly found connections to this dark world, Strange may finally be able to accomplish some of the good he set out to do.

John Strange is an unfrocked priest who lost his vocation after his involvement in unsolved deaths, which he says were caused by demons. He is now a committed demon hunter, assisted by computer nerd Toby and Kevin, who has Downs Syndrome ,which makes him sensitive to demonic presences. Kevin is the gardener to Canon Black, John's former boss and a cold figure who has no truck with satanic theories. When the Reverend Rutt dies in mysterious circumstances Strange is sure that demonism was involved and enlists the support of Jude, a nurse on whose ward the vicar died. Jude lives with wealthy lover Rich and their little son. However Rich is about to be exposed as a very terrifying creature. . .
