Granville is still trying to persuade Gastric to charm Madge so that she will consent to attend his drinks party with Mavis but dressing him up as Father Christmas is not a good idea - especially when a trampoline is also involved.

Whilst Nurse Gladys dodges the attentions of former patient Michael, whose boil she once lanced, and Mrs Featherstone takes a shine to lonely widower Mr Newbold, Granville decides on a half-price sale; however, it is only of old stock he has found hard to shift, and there are few takers. Meanwhile his latest attempt to get a reluctant Gastric to court Madge involves inflatable underwear, and is an inevitable disaster.

Perturbed that there is a blind spot in the shop to mask thieves Granville takes drastic action as well as persuading Gastric that the widow he fancies may be poisoning him, in his tireless efforts to get Gastric to woo Madge. Unfortunately neither Gastric or Madge appreciate the use of a cherry-picker and Granville's security system leaves him, literally, with cottage pie on his face. Wet Eric and Kath meanwhile enjoy jogging - or at least she does.

Accordingly Granville hand-cuffs him to a giant plastic sunflower but unfortunately loses the key, leading to a most bizarre ceremony. Mrs Featherstone also has her mind set on wedding bells, to Mr Newbold's consternation, but Granville does get to be alone with Mavis.

Granville, as ever, is full of sharp sales techniques, including selling dented tins of beans - whose change of shape doubles the taste of the contents, bread inflated with a cycle pump and salami, marketed as an aphrodisiac called Yaggis. He even manages to convince the irate husband of a Yaggis customer of its amatory properties, when suddenly everywhere he looks love is in the air.
