2 Episodes 2016 - 2016
Episode 1
49 mins
Former Royal marines commando and experienced nature documentary maker Steve Backshall is excited to take his film crew on a real expedition, the first ever to follow, in modern kayaks lead by a New Zealand expert, the uncharted Baliem Valley in the dense forests of western (Indonesian) New Guinea. The waters prove wilder and the rocks sharper then feared, so on the second day already a helicopter intervention is deemed inevitable. However it allows Steve to stop for a visit with a team of speleologists to the equally unexplored collapsed giant caves, the first being inaccessible due to opposition from some of the region's Dani tribes, the second even more spectacular then Steve hoped. Then the kayak journey is resumed further downstream.
