In an impoverished South Wales industrial town, DCI Paul Bethell eagerly volunteers, in 1973, to take charge of an investigation, allowed by the ambitious new chief to flaunt the possible benefits of DNA tests, to possibly link the neighboring CID's investigation into three fresh rapist-murders with a similar drama in his own town that has haunted both his community for almost 30 years. Hoping to finally piece together the trauma, DS Chris Wynne and DC Geraint Bale join his team, but he hoped-for ten men and budget aren't assigned, it's just them in a derelict storage room, and the CID chief won't even hear about Bethel's theory, merely cares to catch the present culprits fast. Only Bethel is convinced by the original laborer suspect's quasi-alibi, but can't stop his mates from dumping the poor man, after a rough 'suggestive questioning' on foot in the wasteland where victims were dumped after abuse, the new once are in another wood nearer town.
