The Arrival

After realizing he does want a relationship, Charlie's next attempt to get Caitlin back in a romantic mood is wrecked by a visit form his popular predecessor, Mike Flaherty, whom the mates advise to go for the presumed true love he met on Costa Rican holiday. After Mike advises to keep the mayor happy, the rest will sort out itself, Charlie tells Winston to go public with his affair with judge Claire Simmons, and even to stick to it when her husband refuses a divorce and announces a juicy book just before the mayoral elections.

A Tree Falls in Manhattan

Allison Wright comes present his fiancée Allison Wright, whom he proposed to when 'rescued' on Costa Rican beach holiday, and announces he's leaving politics to travel the world with her. Carter is trusted with 'helping' pick the ring, but soon suspects Mike's true love still is politics. Indeed, he can't resist jumping in when the mayor is under press attack after stupidly ordering the cutting of a tree planted outside his mansion by George Washington. Charlie wrestles with guilt and rebuke from Caitlin after being seduced from a bar to bed by foxy Jennifer Duncan, who turns out to have leaked the tree story.

Wife with Mikey

Chalrie's patience slowly runs out when workaholic Mike, whose wedding fell trough, systematically takes over as if deputy mayor again, and everybody lets him, especially the mayor. Charlie however discovered that Mike was the dumper, convinces him to acknowledge true love and gets Carter to arrange an original but classy wedding in city hall before Alison leaves the country again. The mayor performs it, despite being forced to cross-dress for charity.

The Apartment

Charlie suggests avoiding bad publicity about the mayor's relationship with married judge Claire by hiding at a friend's place, but finds them horrible guests when Randall invites himself and her, without any regard for Charlie's love - and fan life. Caitlin dislike of baby talk chances as soon as someone lets her hold an infant. She resolves to opt for single motherhood, so Stuart postulates in vain as 'donor', Carter convinces her to practice by minding his spoiled own dog Rags, which proves daunting. Having unwittingly badmouthed the mayor on TV, Paul hires sleazy 'publicist' Shelly Hallerman.

Yet Another Stakeout

The mayor puts Caitlin in charge of Charlie's idea, a retaliation campaign after a series of embarrassing scenes with Winston posted by his rival Julian Wheeler. Charlie however is against using dynamite stuff because it would be hell on his family, and Charlie never quite got over losing respect for his adulterous father. Carter gets excessive 'help' from his colleagues while being screened by an adoption agency official. Then former colleague Michelle drops by, who considers Carter an ideal father and offers to carry his baby. Stuart finally confesses his crush on her, which to dis surprised delight is reciprocated. But he objects to 'his girl' being fertilized by another man.

Robin Jones eagerly accepts to become friends with 'lonely' Caitlin and date sex-starved Paul, whom the mayor believes to be her sex toy.

The mayor and lover judge Claire have a 'power fight' over who decides where they meet. Paul' divorce settlement, which could clean him out in his ex's convent's favor due to superior sister Agnes's frightfully efficient zeal, becomes hostage to the lover's whim as he chose presumably friendly-partial Claire to handle their case.

The Wedding Scammer

Charlie agrees to play Caitlin's imaginary boyfriend to appease her bossy matchmaker mother, before he realizes that means accompanying her at a cousin's wedding, where the even more extensive family lies prove to much. The mayor is exhausted by campaign appearances, so he may offend any time by speaking even dumber then usual or bluntly dozing off. Stuart envies Paul being 'bothered' by cousin Rhea, now a fashion model, to attend her underwear show, but can't talk Paul out of brushing her off as in their childhood.

Fight Flub

After Charlie was rid of a Hulk-like date by Caitlin, he feels obliged to come to her rescue promptly, even though that means he's not around to prevent the mayor from overdoing a gym session on TV, where electoral rival Julian Wheeler turned up unexpectedly. Caitlin has changed her mind about date Kyle when he abandons his competitive tough act, despite a relapse making him punch Charlie. JUlian has a heart attack during the treadmill duel, which knocks him out of the mayoral race. Team Winston finds they cheer to soon, as Wheeler's wife Nancy takes over, proves qualified and takes the lead by shamelessly exploiting the public's sympathy for the devoted wife.

Chinatown

On city election day, the mayor's team is exhausted. Winston insists to make his engagement with Claire public, against advice, and commits goofs which seem fatal. Staffers expect to loose their jobs, Paul even openly applies with the rival candidate. Chinatown however has its own interpretation.

Charlie cockily claim he'll have no trouble deciding by noon which of his staffers gets the grand new office, but once they saw the classy luxury, everybody wants it and tries seduction, bribery or blackmail. Stuart can't bring himself to make love with Michelle ass long as she treats him uncommonly nicely, but it starts driving her mad- enough? Caitlin can't decide whether to date the presumably hot Santa in city hall, as his suit covers up too much.

O Mother, Where Art Thou?

Charlie dates young Tracy, whose rich father Tom Crandall claims that she picks unsuitable boyfriends to provoke him. Even worse, he's dating Caitlin, who wants Charlie to back off, but Stuart encourages him to stand his ground and the Crandalls drag the young couple to their regular family therapist Steven. Carter only invited the receiver of the mayor's hated late bossy mother's heart to meet him, but Randall dates her before anyone can explain.

Rags to Riches

Charlie makes crustal clear his ever-absent father Ray isn't welcome to his birthday, but Caitlin arranges for him to attend by way of worse surprise gift ever. Due to the mayor's stealing accountant, Winston failed to make suitable charitable donations, so Charlie advises to set up a 'discrete' foundation and leak the news. Among the lunatic competitors, Ray's fake charity CASH easily wins, and he bluffs Charlie won't dare turn in his lousy runaway father as a crook. Carter's grief over the untimely (late)demise of dog Rags is worsened by Paul's more hen clumsy attempts to sooth it.

Sex, Lies and Video Date

Charlie is caught to his womanizing nature and loyalty to the mayor, who asks his help to check up on his flirtatious visiting niece Stephanie. Carter's plan to flaunt a ridiculously expensive leather coat is crushed when out-staged by the mayor, whose new sports-car however proves doomed. Against everyone's advice, romantically desperate Paul enters a live dating show where male candidates are routinely humiliated.

Eyes Wide Open

Conservative nerd Spence proves a perfect match when he meets carter in the big brother program. However when Charlie must mind him a while, boding proves impossible due to different interests, until Charlie awakes the womanizing beast in the knave, who just as soon tastes heartache. Charlie looses a date, already in his bedroom, trough the sleepless mayor's jealous ranting over the phone. Stuart's home-made ocean sounds tape, recommended as cure for insomnia, proves formidably flawed. Paul himself and, less, the mayor suffer trough their secrecy about a senator's offer to recruit Paul as press secretary.

Accompanying the mayor to a fund-raiser finally gives carter a shot with gay art dealer Martin Davis, but bringing Stuart along as wingman proves all but as harmless as it sounded.

Carter pities Paul depression now his divorce is formally pronounced and accepts to help out by double-dating as fake straight friend, only to find Paul's date is the least interested, his near-unshakable.

Charlie having bragged he needs never to get jealous, Caitlin pulls all stops with conference planner Joseph Maxwell, one the latest hottest men list unlike Charlie this year. However he's of the kind whose requited interests rather go to Carter, which Charlie realizes first.

A Friend in Need

Now that Charlie and Caitlin have finally embraced being a couple, it's torture to have to hide their relationship, and even more so when they're in the mayor's office. Randall wines and dines equally spoiled governor Riley, leaving Charlie and Caitlin to make his vane promises work. They fear exposure when the security videos must solve the disappearance of the $100,000 celebrity spectacles the mayor bought for his wife. Carter is tickled pink with his first foster son, but can't stop his crying, until Paul offers to help.
