When Maria and Mousie try to go to the Daily Bugle to explain about Spider-Man being brainwashed by Doc Ock, but Jameson starts to defame Spider-Man even further, much to Maria and Mousie's anger. Knowing that the police or the Daily Bugle won't help them, Mousie enlists her fellow cab drivers to help save Spider-Man from Doc Ock and they succeed with their plan. Mousie and Maria free Spider-Man from his brainwashing by reminding him that he is still a hero. Maria is able to defeat Doc Ock by controlling his Octobot and he is arrested by the police, while Spider-Man is exonerated for the medical lab incident. Spider-Man takes Maria back to her room and he reveals his identity to her. Maria is delighted to know that her idol is Peter and she promises to keep his identity a secret. Spider-Man starts to develop a newfound sense of hope within himself before swinging away.

However, the Kingpin discovers Alistair's betrayal and he hires Herbert Landon as his chief scientist. Landon turns Alistair into the Ultimate Spider Slayer. Meanwhile, Peter becomes dismayed that Mary Jane is engaged to Harry. At the engagement party, Alistair captures Norman, Harry, and Mary Jane. Spider-Man reveals to Alistair that Kingpin has his father in a cryogenic pod, this causes him to realize his former employer's deception. Mary Jane soon breaks off her engagement to Harry, due to her feelings for Peter.

Peter and Robbie plan on doing an exposé on Alisa Silvermane (daughter of the infamous crime lord), who is currently running her father's criminal empire after he was turned into a baby from the tablet of time. Alisa pays Tombstone to get Robbie and Peter to kill the story. However, Robbie and Spider-Man both discover Randy's involvement in The Bandana Gang. More of Robbie's past comes into light, when he reveals to Spider-Man that he used to be friends with Lonnie Lincoln aka Tombstone.
