Episode 1
The Royals have been posted to West Germany and 6 platoon have been given a new C.O. Meanwhile Sgt. Maj. Colby is scheming to get rid of the troublesome Pvte. Stevens, who finally reveals one of the reasons for his rage.
Episode 2
The strains in Corporal Box's marriage lead him to make a blunder during tank exercises that angers the Germans. His wife is lonely, homesick and harbouring a secret. And Pvte. Gadd's stag party (he's getting married in the morning) turns rancourous.
Episode 3
Pvte Twiss and Sgt. Maj. Gilbey are both thinking about promotion. Sgt. Bilinsky wants to marry Helga, but she's an escapee from communist East Germany and Army Intelligence thinks she may be a spy.
Episode 4
Pvte Adams's father is visiting from England. Tensions are still high between the two, but a visit to the museum of Belsen concentration camp has a surprising effect. Pvte Stevens, permanently angry and deeply unpopular, receives some devastating news.
Episode 5
Lt. Pickering causes a serious incident on the heavily defended border between East and West Germany, forcing the men of 6 platoon to weigh up the conflicting demands of humanity, group loyalty and military discipline.
Episode 6
The men of 6 platoon are back on duty in Northern Ireland. During a night-time surveillance operation they are ambushed and Cpl. Twiss goes missing presumed captured. Enquiries among the locals are met with bitter and mutual hostility. Then a telephone call comes through.
