Kaiser drags his mostly unenthusiastic detectives to team-building, unplugged to solve a silly ball course building challenge. As they can't be reached, constable Sibylle "Bille" Beyer starts investigation a brad new murder scene with the forensic experts Dr. Benedikt Förster and Jan Arnaud, later joined by Jo, who slips away precisely to enable squaring an additional challenge. Charismatic gastronomic chef Edgar Wehrle, ran an innovative, popular rural B&B with wife Anja where he's murdered. They gradually find out waitress Maribel Schröder's boyfriend, disgruntled organic produce farmer Timo Koschke, knew about his unwanted moves, and the body was moved from the cooling cell. .

Driving to a medical trial, the attorney of the defendant hospital dies from recent poisoning, fitting a secret stash there. The clinic is systematically overburdened, understaffed, yet administrative manager Vivienne Wald denies any medial malpractice and doubts a link with the murder. Father Kaspar Kovac sued it and the surgeon in vain for the death of his teen son in OR, but denies private vengeance. Sued surgeon Dr. Christof Schleicher is clearly dangerously overworked, yet lacks any apparent motive, like devoted nurse Anne Lindner, whose emotions prove relevant.

Astrophysics professor Kurt Mahler, who did controversial research for alien civilizations in an international program, disappeared at night from the Stuttgart institute, leaving behind so much blood murder is likely. It seems he had an affair with assistant Elvira Kröger. His wife, exo-biologist Dr. Anabel Mahler, can't say if opponents or funds rivals make plausible suspects. Deutschen Zentrums für Raumfahrt und Forschung director Conner McCallum considered the program a waste of means. Schrotti's youth friend, used cars salesman Moritz Grolmann, was skull-smashed. Two homeless youths are suspects, spotted lurking by Wally Müller, a neighboring competitor, hence also has a motive. Cleo's stepmother Annette Stettner, the now sole-succeeding joint CEO, fails to hide their ongoing bitter policy conflict and blames a mystery man, allegedly a former lover. It's unformed constable Sibylle Beyer's husband Dr. Jakob Appiah, who owns a relevant tech-start-up, and is becomes prime suspect, given matching paint of his company car, an intellectual authorship dispute and pictures on is smartphone suggesting an affair, which he claims planted.
