Iceland Was Horrible

Todd has regained his detective license and installed himself as independent P.I. inside his tiny law firm office. He's on he list of 16 employees Margaret, who proudly threw a party for her promotion to full 'name partner', is assigned to fire, as the firm is near bankruptcy. Margaret seeks to regain a deserting client, a local TV station, by offering her services to the fired executive suspected of a murder on live morning news. Her alternative suspect however, an intern, hires Todd to prove his innocence, undercover as the new intern. While son and ma bicker over how much independence he can enjoy in symbiosis, Margaret's relationship with Gus Easton is doomed when he finds out Todd's dad is back from Iceland and a adopted a cat in her apartment.

Your Day in Court

Todd is investigating who stole his client's identity. Helping out in several court cases at once, he notices more cases, all victims being jurors, hence can track down the inside job. Margaret got dumped a case by the chief partner, so badly prepared to defend the couple, opposing her now ex Gus, with a hostile judge, and the clients turn on each-other.

This time Todd pleads against defending his former 'mentor'; dodgy scam lawyer Belinda Tuttle, who is accused of staging a former client's unexpectedly fatal fall to fraudulently sue a supermarket, but Margaret needs every case to save the near-bankrupt law firm, having finally fired the most junior secretary. Todd reluctantly does the investigation, with now sponging sister Alice as medical expert, as they need to expose the real culprit.

When Todd has appendicitis he is brought to the hospital and operated on. He is confined. While in a sedated state. He thinks he hears his roommate and a woman talking about a murder. He calls Margaret and she is incredulous to his ranting cause she is trying to convince a pair of elderly women to sign on with the firm. When she sees the woman Todd thinks he saw she follows her and takes the sisters along and they help her. Todd gets a new roommate a veteran detective, who helps Todd figure out if what he heard is true.

End on a High Note

When Margaret drags her kids to the opera, they nearly sleep through Verdi, until diva Jacqueline Burton female counterpart isn't just poisoned in the play, but actually dies onstage, as Allison finds. Being Burton's usual understudy, finally getting a shot at a lead last-minute, she may not be the intended target, but the diva, who is charged by the DA and hires Margaret, being Lyle's mother. She proves as insufferable a client as a parent, utterly egotistic and theatrical. Team Todd must work out what really happened.

Todd is stunned when his gay brother Lawrence Wright hires him to work out if a political candidate is lying about his sexual preference, which could compromise the governor's and his own career. That leaves Lyle to help Margaret find a reluctant witness to save their client's livelihood.

Faux-Bituary

Judge Hudson Foster isn't inclined to make come true Margaret's promise her client, whose false obituary was processed in administrations, is not only alive physically but also legally, so merely grants a week continuance. Todd, who worries about his PI firm's inefficient PR, must track down the hacker and mastermind behind the complex identity theft, manipulating Lyle, who is groggy from dentist laughing gas. Meanwhile Susa is hell-bent on securing her future in the ailing law fir by landing a major client, Scottish tech CEO Rory Macintosh, but he meets Todd, who becomes buddies with him using a fake pirate-like accent.

P.I.'s Wide Shut

Feeling abused in the Rodney charade, Lyle starts a prank war against Todd, but soon finds his master and must face proof his lover is sort of a corporate spy. Susan is reluctant to get help from Margaret, but it proves necessary in the case of a tennis coach client Tom, falsely accused of arranging for at least one teen athlete to take drugs. So Todd must help work out who is responsible- perhaps the overbearing mother he transferred her ambition.

Crest, Folding, and Wright is on the brink of financial failure, so Margaret accepts a case brought to the firm by Gus to evaluate plaintiffs in a class action settlement and requires associates to work all weekend. Meanwhile, after Todd and Lyle uncover Alex's secret, she hires Todd to help her find out who at the firm is brokering verdicts from a bribed judge. Alison runs into her ex-husband, Chuck, with his new fiancé and doesn't handle it well.
