A second homicide comes along, proving it's murder. The scent of flowers reveals a secret to help the Sniffer stage a solution. Thought to be on scholarship, Alena was not, with income derived from stripping and possibly prostitution. The men turn out to be her university boyfriend, her landlord, and her father - but the Sniffer points out that water from her running shower could have obliterated scents of others. Viktor investigates the strip club where she worked. Meanwhile, Tatyana's doctor discovers she's been avoiding her meds, and the Sniffer discovers he's been brainwashed.

With the capture of the sniper, the Special Investigation Bureau (SBR) learns more about the "ghost" men - ten well-trained professional killers from Special Operations gone rogue, all weapons masters, all with psychological training, and none afraid of death. The Sniffer, finding himself compromised (programmed to kill against his will, as are others), covers his misdeeds from discovery while seeking, on his own, how he got that way. Meanwhile, as Gena deals with a formidable computer attack that scrambles all records of "ghost" activities, the SBR gets vaccinated by an impostor. Elsewhere, a to-be-perfect family dinner for Alex' eighteenth birthday goes poorly for Yulia.

Viktor and the SBR have a serial killer on their hands, one who dresses up and publicly displays his female victims as a chair-tied character from the 80s children show, "Professor Positron's Academy," but Viktor alone has another problem. His friend the Sniffer is lying to him and covering up his actions. This is unfortunately true. Acting adamantly on his own, the Sniffer seeks those who've taken time away and programmed him to kill, leading him always back to a desolate pier. Meanwhile, the investigation into the "ghost" men turns up a tie to the well-executed disappearance of a quadriplegic girl, and Yulia - whatever her plans were with the hospitalized Tatyana - discovers that she's criminally suffering under her doctor's care.

The Sniffer awakens among the "ghost" men, who want to recruit him into their revolutionary cause. He's given the option and returned to civilian life. Meanwhile, Viktor - his friendship too sorely tested - moves to have the Sniffer arrested. Evidence works against the Sniffer's claim as to the leader of the "ghost" men, including the blocked CCTV files that suddenly, miraculously become available and show the Sniffer's mind-controlled misdeeds. Three choices remain: Go to prison, join the "ghost" men, or be liquidated. Meanwhile, Tatyana's plight forces Yulia's heroic better angels to arise, which doesn't sit well with Yulia.
