When Morgan is found fatally poisoned, Forsyth and the show's three presenters, ex-soldier Jono Hardy, ventriloquist Danny Lemon and former circus performer Sandy Shanks become Sam's main suspects, all their jobs being on the line. The show must go on, with the stunt Dinah planned, jumping from the region's highest tower, but that scares even Jono and the shoot has to be aborted as the equipment is last-minute found sabotaged. The apparent copycat poisoning of Irene Symonds demands reviewing evidence against Myrtle Hunnisweet, the original serial killer 'The Good Samaritan', gathered by Max and sister Boniface. Instead of prison Hunnisweet, a fan of Agatha Christie who used convoluted techniques to murder 'immoral' victims, was declared insane and sent to a psychiatric hospital. The poisoning of Saul Cropper leads to Sam's suspension for conflict of interest. Suspects include Symonds's husband, who knew of his wife's many extra marital affairs and penniless psychiatric nurse Brenda Bristow as sole beneficiary of her grandfather Saul Cropper. A third suspect is Oswald Blower, who is writing a book to exonerate Hunnisweet by 'disproving' the evidence. Sister Boniface thinks Hunnisweet is communicating by code with the copycat killer, as a clue in Myrtle's painting points to her botanical articles in the hospital magazine. The latest edition forewarns of an attempt to poison Sam and then probably Sister Boniface, who sets a toxic trap.
