After losing her young son in a car crash Jessica becomes obsessed with press cuttings of other bereaved parents and her husband Mark suggests they move to the country. On the way they argue and there is another car accident but when Jessica wakes up in hospital she has gone back six months in time to the aftermath of her son's death. Mark does not believe her but certain facts come to show she is right,including one of the fatalities in her scrapbook. This means that Mark will die in another road accident and he seems unwilling to let Jessica prevent it.

Lou and her boyfriend Matt lodge with her friend Terri. One day a personable young man arrives at the house and says he is Richard,barrister cousin of the other house-mate Tom. He charms both women and has sex with Lou,who is going through a bad patch with Matt. But he also subtly tries to turn them all against each other to secure his place in the house and,when the real Richard turns up,he kills him. As the truth dawns on them that they have let a killer into the house the trio must combine to destroy him before he destroys them.

One night Mike meets the much younger Deborah,who reawakens his interest in dancing the tango,as well as becoming a confidante and friend to Anne. However it becomes apparent to Anne that Deborah's meeting with her father was no mere accident and that she has an ulterior motive for being with him beyond winning the tango contest. When Anne starts to pry in Deborah's room she uncovers a frightening secret about her and about Mike too.
