Detectives Bruce Catelli and Madeline Maguire of the Vancouver Police Department's Priority Crime Unit investigate a mass shooting at a South Asian restaurant. The unknown gunmen shot five people dead, seriously wounded a now unconscious Jane Doe, but left one woman named Amita Sandhu, the restaurant owner, unharmed. Catelli and Maguire's initial thoughts are that it is a gang hit in a turf war. Catelli and Maguire are unaware that someone else is also investigating the murders, namely Kyle Loggins, an ex Vancouver police detective on disability leave. Kyle has suffered from dissociative identity disorder since his wife and daughter were murdered. Loggins knows of and interacts with three of his other personalities: the arrogant A-personality Jack, the analytical Hal, and the child Tyler. It was Jack that spurred Kyle to investigate the gang murders, which the collective four don't believe was gang related at all due to evidence at the crime scene. After the start of the investigation, Kyle wants to help the young and ambitious Maguire solve the case. Maguire, with Kyle's ultimate assistance, is able to piece together Amita Sandu's connection to the Jane Doe and the reason for the murders which has to do with land developers and a missing baby.
