Albert Watson received the Victoria Cross for bravery on the North West Frontier of India. During a quarrel with his father, Albert kills him, and barricades himself in his house with Sergeant Cork as hostage.
Episode 2
The Case of the Painted Boat
Maid Annie flees when she discovers her mistress, Mrs. Dawson with a dead body. Fleeing next door the Webster's call in the police. Mrs. Dawson acts the respectable widow but a barge parked by the house leads to a murderous "Baby Farm".
Episode 3
The Case of the Simple Savage
Rev. Horace Greely returns from New Zealand with Maori Chief Tama. Staying with the Laverock family he struggles to adapt to England. After a spate of robberies, Marriott finds a Maori weapon but decides to wait and catch Tama in the act.
Episode 4
The Case of the Hooded Students
James Leather is the head teacher of a private boys school. He is bound and tied up and put on trial, by an hooded court, accused of punishing a boy who later died. Next day he does not show for school. Sgt. Cork and Marriott investigate.
