Episode 1

The Case of the Fellowship Murder

Edgar Whitbread calls at the office of a charity assisting immigrants: let in by the handyman, Brill, they disturb a man who flees before Brill finds the secretary, Miss Mallow, dead. A polish refugee is soon arrested trying to sell a gold brooch of hers, and a tie pin, but Cork believes the man is merely an opportunistic thief who panicked, and not the murderer. Brill claims to recognise the tie-pin as Mallow's when shown it by Cork, but then leaves. He is followed to Whitbread's house, and Cork's suspicions of Brill's intention - blackmail - are confirmed when Whitbread's sister recognises the pin as his, dropped at the scene of the crime and which he was intending to recover.
