Episode 1

Centuries after a pandemic reduces world population to a few million, all blind, North America is ruled by mad queen Kana, who has all things related to vision and light persecuted as heresy. Her witchfinder general Tamacti Jun leads his army, tipped off by traitor Gether Bax, who is abused for his trouble, to the village of the Alkenny tribe, rumored to harbor most wanted heretic Jerlamarel, or rather the expecting mother of his twins, Maghra, who was welcomed as wife of chief Baba Voss. The latter presides over a brilliant defense, crushing wave of warriors on and under the ultimately collapsed stone walls of the closed-in village, but he's almost deposed to offer the newborn twins as sacrifice when the main force is marching on. However the midwife Paris shows them a recently laid rope bridge, allowing the tribe to escape and collapse it so Tamacti can't follow them, the leads them to a suitable place to start all over, where the twins can grow up.

Episode 2

Baba and Maghra raise the twins in the new-built Alkenny town, knowing the witch-finders may one day chase them again. Hunting, Baba is saved from a bear by great heretic Jerlamarel, who can see and hence use a bow. He confirms being the twins' biological father and hands Baba the key to a hidden treasure, to be opened when they're twelve, as they can see too. It's a chest full of books 'containing all humanity's knowledge', which they love learning from, but Maghra blindly objects to the risk of stirring the wrath of the queen for the supreme heresy. Queen Kane remains desperately obsessed with the witch-hunt, ignoring a brooding rebellion as the kingdom is falling apart, lacking water control.

Episode 3

Model stepfather Baba raised the twins generously, allowing them to lean from the books behind mother Maghra's back. Queen Kane realizes the worsening situation in the crumbling kingdom isn't tenable, having to execute loyal courtiers for plotting to make her relax the obsessive heresy persecution. Tamacti Jun failed to exterminate it, hence expects execution and gets permission to commit suicide himself, but Kane comes to her senses and stops him. Kane agrees to accompany the inquisitive twins to a festival, but on the long road, son Kofun gets caught by ruthless slave traders. Baba tells daughter Haniwa to stay behind as he gives chase, being a former member of that very band. They consider him a traitor, so welcome the chance to kill him, but are eliminated in duels one by one, the last by an arrow from disobedient Haniwa. Maghra hates the twins having learned to read more then their rescue rejoice, and wants to disown them. The witch-finder finally finds the new Alkenny village.

Episode 4

Tamacti Jun is reported marching to the new Alkenny village, and most villagers turn against Baba's family of 'witches', but banishing them with a few followers isn't enough to earn mercy. Again, Gether Bax, whom Kofun took hostage but released, shows where they went, but as the trail leads to a raft Baba built and escapes on, Bax is killed as no longer useful, the threat to execute villagers unless the party renders itself is executed after they fight off warriors along the shores, losing all non-kin followers except shadow Bow Lion. Paris now presents the last message from Jelmaral: clues to his ultimate promised land for the seeing. Meanwhile queen Kane's misrule has lost all trust among the courtiers, but survives a sneaky, betrayed attempt on her life and decides to punish the while capital by drowning it as she sabotages the dam machinery and flees with her last loyal maid.

Episode 5

As the witchfinders pursue them, Maghra suggests to abandon the path suggested by Jelamaral to seek safety in hiding, but only surviving outsider Bow Lion swings the vote into going on, the twins being curious for their roots. Despite signs witch-finders are approaching, when Maghra looses the pouch containing her mysterious father's last memento, the twins agree to find it, Baba comes protect them. They reach a tribal scavengers camp, retrieve the pouch and stumble upon their hostage Boots, who is the twins' half-brother, hence adopted for the quest. Queen Kane remains arrogant when found and captured by strange people taking her to the silk worm manufacture lead by cruel Cutter, who tests her as laborer and finds out her identity.

Episode 6

After Baba's valiant party returned the pouch to Maghra, they fight off the approaching witch-finders and escape. She however wandered off and finds Tamacti Jun, who turns from persecutor to pious subject when she shows the ring inside, proof she's the presumed-dead heir to the Kane throne, which the queen snatched from her against their father's wishes. Baba's party reaches a strange underground cave tribe, and get trapped, learning Boots tricked them, being traumatized, as explained by his mother, who helps them escape, sworn to find him and put him out of his misery.

Episode 7

Tamacti Jun doubts Boots' loyalty but agrees to leave eight men behind to search for Maghra's family while the main force seeks the queen. She's finally found at Cutter, and he decides to go free her alone, killing all Cutter's guards. Reaching the promised land, Baba tells the twins it's time to let them go their own way, which Haniwa embraces but scares Kofun, yet keeps follow them watchfully with Paris.

Episode 8

The twins enter the city, warmly welcomed and proudly shown around by father Jerlamarel, whom Kofun mistrusts, loyal to Baba, while Haniwa goes for the promises of a seeing world. They are shocked to be told the world order is to be ultimately turned around again, with seeing people in charge. Overhearing Jerlamarel agreeing to hand over his sister to general Edo, Kofun is overpowered and released as he refuses to join, finding Baba outside. Tamacti is shocked to learn his queen selfishly wrecked the 'disloyal' capital, pondering if it was wrong to ignore the dying king preferring Maghra to succeed.
