Margaret Millington and her ne'er do well son, Guy prepare for the annual Founders Day in Midland Heights. Local diner owner Lucy Dexter has some secrets of her own that she would like to keep to herself and her deaf son, Eric. Dorothy Wheeler is in an unhappy marriage with her husband Martin and tries to shield this from their daughter Holly. Holly is seeing well off Teddy Welsh who's father, Nathan is a schoolteacher. Teddy wants things to progress with Holly. Unfortunately for Teddy, Holly just looks at him as a friend. Unknown to Holly and Teddy their parents Nathan and Dorothy have an eye for each other. At the Founders Day bash, Margaret and Guy are not happy with Ann slumming it with local bad boy John Grey. Margaret is worried that her granddaughter Ann is just settling. Guy on the other hand feels that his niece Ann is in the way of him getting the Millington fortune and puts it in his mother's head that Ann will end up like her mother Helen; (Guy's sister and Margaret's daughter) in a mental institution. Lisa Rogers the town flirt has her eyes on both Mark Hudson and Burt Carroll. Things heat up at the Founders Day when Mark and Burt get into a fist fight landing Burt into the hospital. John and Ann are having a perfect time when all of a sudden two guys grab John and abduct him.

Episode 2
Sat, Dec 13, 1980
Dorothy hands in her College exam to Nathan. Nathan smiles at her and says I am sure you did fine . Dorothy says she wants to pass on her own and not for having an affair with her professor. Lisa and Holly discuss Lisa breaking up with Mark. Mark swings by the diner and asks Lisa out and she turns him down. Mark then flirts with Holly. At the breakfast table Ann tells Margaret and Guy that she does not feel well. Margaret tells Ann to stay home from school if she likes. Holly arrives home and confronts Dorothy that she knows she is having an affair with Nathan. Dorothy tries to explain that she wants to save her marriage with Martin. Holly tells Dorothy that she must repair the marriage. Dorothy and Martin head to bed and Dorothy asks Martin to make love to her and he declines. While at school Ann gets her assignments she missed from Calvin and is talking with him and almost faints. Calvin tells Ann that she ought to see a doctor. Teddy tells Nathan that he is aware of his affair with Dorothy. Hilda Carroll stops by at the Wheeler home and Dorothy breaks down and tells her friend about Nathan. Holly continues to disrespect Dorothy and Martin scolds her. Mark asks Lisa out on a date and Lisa tells him that if they do go out, he must give up his harem. At the college Nathan and Dorothy have a heart to heart chat. Dorothy says she has to try and save her marriage for Holly's sake. Martin comes home drunk and tries to have sex with Dorothy and she refuses which makes Martin angry. Dorothy then realizes what she must do. Guy confronts Ann about her almost fainting at school and continues to gaslight her by comparing Ann to her mentally unstable mother Helen and that he condition is hereditary. Holly bursts into Martin and Dorothy's bedroom and tells them to stop arguing. Martin leaves and Dorothy tells Holly that she knows what she needs to do and will need Holly's help.

Episode 3
Sat, Dec 20, 1980
After the Founders Day celebration, John Grey is kidnapped and hidden by Guy Millington's henchman. That puts Holly and Teddy on the hunt for the missing man. The next day Holly goes to John Grey's home to see if he is there, but encounters John's drunk mother Nancy instead and she tells him that John is not home. Guy suggests to his mother Margaret that Anne appears to have symptoms like her mother Helen of going crazy. Guy wants Margaret to change her will so that he will get more than his sister Helen since she is in a mental sanitarium. Dorothy and Martin's marriage continues to deteriorate. Dorothy finds a woman's phone number in Martin's jacket. At the school, Dorothy brings Nathan some paperwork to fill out and they kiss. Dorothy tells Nathan that they have to be careful. Guy goes to visit Lucy after she closes up her diner. Lucy is tucking in her deaf son, Eric. Guy plays with his son an issue that his mother Margaret and the town are not aware of. Guy goes to visit John and decides to release him and tells him that it was all a mistake. However, it would be wise for John to stop seeing his niece, Ann. Lisa Rogers asks her sometime boyfriend Mark Hudson to drive her home from school. In reality Lisa gives Mark the directions to her latest conquest Burt Carroll's home. Burt and Mark had gotten into a fist fight which put Burt into the hospital and is home now recovering. Burt's sister Mikki sees Lisa getting out of Mark's car and is not happy. Mark is not happy that he was played by Lisa. Ann finally meets up with John. John makes it very clear that he no longer wants to see her anymore. Ann in hysterics goes home and confronts Guy. Ann has it out with Guy and screams at him that she knows he has something to do with John no longer wanting to see her anymore. Ann continues to scram and out of the corner of his eye, Guy sees Margaret and tries to calm Ann down. Margaret asks what is going on and Ann screams and runs to her room. Perfect timing for Guy and he looks at his mother and says to Margaret, "see Ann is acting just like her mother, Helen...crazy"..

Episode 4

Cal and his students plan a weekend entitled, "Hooverville" where the student will feel how it was like to live during the depression. Dorothy tries to get Martin to talk with her so that she can ask him for a divorce. While the students are setting up Burt and Lisa have a fight. John tries to be civil with Ann. Holly and Teddy worry about their parents affair. While John is driving he suffers a massive stroke and is rushed to the hospital. Nathan and Dorothy are enjoying a romantic evening at Nathan's getaway retreat. Lisa goes to visit and flirt with Mark. Burt stops at the dinner and tells Lucy his troubles and they come close to kissing. Lucy says it would be a mistake. Dr. Loy, who is treating Martin is unable to get a hold of Dorothy, but reaches Holly. Holly and Teddy rush to the hospital. Dr. Loy tells them that Dorothy must be notified because it is very serious with Martin. Teddy goes to Nathan's retreat and walks in on Nathan and Dorothy and tells them what has happened to Martin. Dorothy leaves and gives Nathan a difficult look.

Episode 5
Sat, Jan 3, 1981
The carnival comes to town. Danny is excited and Nathan is preoccupied after what has happened with Dorothy. Ann goes shopping at the boutique that Lisa works in and ends up stealing from the shop. The saleslady believes she has seen the theft. Holly asks Teddy about his mother and how she died. Cal continues to tutor Ann at he home which pleases Margaret. After tutoring Cal stops in Lucy's diner and visits with Lucy and Eric and offers to take Eric to the carnival which pleases Eric and Lucy. After Cal leaves, Guy shows up at Lucy's and is not happy that Cal is taking Eric to the carnival since he takes Eric every year. Teddy, Holly and Danny go to the carnival and see Burt and Mikki. Lisa is strolling the carnival with Mark which angers Burt. Danny meets a fortune teller who decides to plan a con with Danny and tells him that she can have him meet up with his mother if he brings along some items of hers. At dinner, Margaret suggests to Guy that he take Ann to the carnival. Guy says that he usually takes Eric Dexter. Margaret says that he spends an awful lot of time with Eric, considering Guy is not fond of children. Guy relents and says he will take Ann to the carnival. Danny gets some things of his mothers and takes Teddy's car to the carnival and almost runs over Teddy. Teddy tells Nathan what has happened and they both head for the carnival. Guy takes Ann to the carnival and sees John with a girl getting on the Ferris wheel. In anger Ann goes to one of the games while Guy goes to get ride tickets and steals a prize. The carny grabs Ann and causes an uproar. The police arrive at the carnival with Margaret in tow and Guy pays the carny off. The cop tells the carny he should not have called the police. Nathan and Teddy arrive at the tent while Danny is getting a reading. Mme. Zeena gives Danny back the money and belongings and they head home. Danny confides in Nathan that he was the only one not at the hospital when his mother died and he feels left out. The cop arrives back at the carnival and tells the carny that Margaret is shutting it down. Margaret tells Ann that she is counting on Ann to carry on the family name since Helen is in a mental institution and Guy is so very weak..

Episode 6
Sat, Jan 10, 1981
John's estranged father, who hasn't seen his wife and son for years, returns to compete against John in an auto race. John's father, Mike has won all the races on the circuit and just needs to win this one and he will get a big promotional deal. The only hitch is that John is the only one that can beat him. Julie Hammond a light skinned black woman with a past comes home. Julie stops in Lucy's diner to see Lucy. Lucy is not pleased to see Julie. Julie has her eye on Micki and soon finds out that like Julie has an interest in ballet. Things at the Wheeler home are till icy between Dorothy and Holly. Holly lets Dorothy know that while visiting Martin in the hospital he uttered her name, Holly. Cal continues to tutor Ann and Guy makes an insinuation that Cal has changed his name and it is different than the name he used in Oregon where he used to live. Mike visits with Nancy and Nancy is thrilled to spend time with her estranged husband and lays off the booze. John is disgusted when he sees that Mike has spent the night with Nancy. Mike tells Nancy about the promotional deal he will get if he wins the race. Mike lets Nancy know that the only person that can beat Mike is John. Nancy takes the bait and asks John not to race and that if Mike can win things will be different for the three of them. Julie visits Serena's dance studio and watches Micki perform and is quite happy. Later on Lucy and Julie are talking at the diner and Julie tells Lucy that MIcki has inherited her love for dance from her. John goes to Mike and says he will not be in the big race, but wants to race him now. John easily beats Mike. The next day Mike wins the race and when John heads home he and Nancy realize that Mike has split again. Nancy hits the bottle. Julie visits Serena and decides to partner with Serena with her dance studio. Serena asks if she is sure Julie wants to leave San Francisco and move to small town, Midland Heights and Julie responds, oh yes.

Episode 7

Margaret Millington has her daughter Helen Millington Dulles released from the mental hospital so that Helen can come home for her birthday. Guy is not happy about Helen coming home and even more unhappy when he sees that once Helen arrives she looks and appears to have taken a much better turn for the better. Margaret and Nathan go to look at some property for the new Arts center. Margaret tells Nathan about Helen's history and wants to make sure that Nathan and his boys will be coming to the party. Margaret also tells Nathan that Dorothy and Holly will be there as well. Dorothy goes to see Dr. Sims about Martin's progress. Dr. Sims tells Dorothy that he would like to see Martin go to a rehab center prior to coming home. Dorothy tells Dr. Sims that she would prefer Martin come home where Dorothy and Holly can care for him. Guy talks with Helen's nurse Karen whom cam with Helen and Karen assures Guy that Helen has made great progress. Helen and Ann get to know each other better and go horseback riding. Ann is thrilled at the progress Helen has made. Trouble starts when Helen goes to her room and decides to change her clothes. Helen puts on a robe and inside the pocket is a cigarette case that frightens Helen calls for Etta and Etta comes in the room and finds nothing. The cigarette case mysteriously disappears. Holly arrives home and when Dorothy tells her about Dr. Sims suggestion about Martin they get in an argument and Dorothy ends up slapping Holly. Helen begins to have flashbacks and is not sure what they mean. In the middle of the night Helen wakes up and hears some music. Helen goes downstairs and finds a music box on the piano and is so disturbed by it drops it and runs from the room. Helen runs into Guy and Helen tells him about the music box. They go in the living room and Guy tells Helen that there is no music box. The next day Holly goes to visit her dad at the hospital and Dr. Sims stops by and tells Holly that Dorothy is apposed to Martin going first to a rehab clinic. The news wakes Holly up and she realizes that she has treated her mother horribly. Helen is getting ready for the party when Etta brings Helen a delivery. Etta gives the delivery to Helen and leaves her room. Helen is shocked to find a corsage with a little pacifier in the center. Helen runs to Ann and tells her about the corsage. Ann and Helen go to Helen's bedroom and Ann thinks the corsage is beautiful. Noticably missing is the tiny pacifier in the center of the corsage. The guests all arrive for the party. Helen is on pins and needles the whole time. Guy brings in the birthday cake with a big knife and the tiny pacifier in his other hand. Helen gets hysterical and shocks everyone with her screaming. Karen takes Helen to her room. Later on, Ann goes to Helen's room and is shocked to find Helen on the floor in hysterics. The next day Karen wheels Helen to the car as Guy watches from a window. Guy has a flashback to when he got a frantic phone call from Helen years ago. Margaret had been sending Helen and her husband Stephen Dulles money for the newborn. Stephen wanted to take the money to settle a gambling debt. Helen and Stephen get into a fight and Stephen threatens baby Ann. Helen grabs the baby and pushes Stephen. Stephen trips and hits a dresser with his head. Falling off the dresser is a music box and cigarette case. Helen calls Guy. Guy arrives and finds baby Ann with a pacifier in her mouth. Guy realizes that Stephen is dead and comforts a hysterical Helen. Guy later buries Stephen and takes with him a music box, cigarette case and pacifier. After Helen and Karen leave a hand opens a trunk in the attic and in goes a music box, cigarette case and pacifier. The trunk is closed and Guy wipes his hands with a big smile on his face. Guy says to himself, "don't worry Helen I will take care of your portion of the inheritance.

Episode 8

Mark's fiance shows up both surprising Lisa and making her angry. Dorothy turn to pills to ease the pain of her unhappy marriage. The young people of the community decide to have a barn dance.

Episode 9
Wed, Feb 4, 1981
Micki is thrilled with her ballet classes with her new teacher Julie Hammond. Word gets back to Tom and Hilda Carroll that Julie is back in town. Burt overhears them arguing and they decide to tell Burt that Micki was adopted after Hilda and Tom's baby girl was stillborn. Burt is shocked and Hilda and Tom inform him that Julie Hammond is Micki's birth mother. After Lisa and Mark split up, Lisa decides to pursue Burt without telling him that Mark dumped her. Martin is improving at home with Dorothy and Holly's help. Cal offers to teach Ann how to drive. Teddy continues to pursue Holly, but Holly says she is not interested. Hilda visits with Dorothy and tells her that Julie is back and she is very frightened that Micki will find out. Lisa is upset that Burt spend so much time with Micki. Burt tells Lisa what has been going on with Micki and Lisa feels bad and apologizes for her behavior. Guy continues to taunt Cal about what he knows about Cal's background and that he may want to stop being around Ann so much. Tom goes to see Julie and they argue about her being back in town. Julie asks Tom which he is more worried about that Micki will find out she is adopted and that Julie is her birth mother or the fact that Tom is indeed her father. Lisa arrives at the Carroll home for a date with Burt and Micki gives her a hard time and threatens to tell Burt that the only reason Lisa is back with him is because Mark dumped her. Lisa blurts out about Micki being adopted. Burt overhears this and Micki asks Burt if that is true. Hilda goes to visit Julie and they have an uncomfortable conversation, But Julie does not tell Hilda that Tom is the true father of Micki. Burt finds Micki sobbing and they talk. Micki decides she does not want her parents to know she knows she is adopted. The day of Micki's recital, Tom and Hilda are on pins and needles. Julie looks out at the audience and smiles at Micki.
Episode 10
Wed, Feb 4, 1981
Lisa has distressing news and decides to share it with Holly and Ann. Lisa is pregnant. Holly and Ann assumes Lisa is going to get an abortion, but Lisa says she is going to have Mark marry her. Meanwhile, at the Wheeler home, Dorothy is on the brink and continues popping pills. Martin is wearing out Dorothy with his constant demands, reading the bible and thinking that when he had the stroke he had died and come back. Lisa goes to see Mark and tells him about being pregnant and Mark offers to pay for the abortion. Lisa says she would prefer to marry. Mark in no means is ready to settle down with an underage girl. Lisa is very disappointed. The next day Lisa goes to a doctors office to have the procedure with Holly and Ann and ends up leaving after the doctor gives her pamphlets to read. Dorothy has Holly go to the drug store to get her father's prescriptions and finds one for Dorothy and Holly is very sad. Holly tells Teddy and Teddy suggest that his father might be able to talk with Dorothy. Holly does not want Nathan involved. Lisa once again goes to see Mark and they end up fighting. Mark lets Lisa he has no plans of ever marrying her. Lisa asks Holly is she can stay over night at her house. Holly sees how unhinged Dorothy is and ends up asking Nathan to get involved. The next day Nathan stops by to visit Martin in a ruse to see Dorothy. Nathan talks with Dorothy and she agrees to see Nathan the next day to get his help to kick the habit. Lisa, Ann and Holly are at Lucy's diner when Lisa spots Burt and goes over to see him. Lisa has an idea and asks for Burt to give her a second chance.
Episode 11
Wed, Feb 4, 1981
Teddy is tired of things not going anywhere with Holly. At the library Teddy runs into a fellow classmate, Kim. Kim is very interested in Teddy and lets it be known. Lisa decides to play hard press with Burt. Burt tells Lisa that with all that has been going on with Micki, she is his top concern. While out driving Margaret sees Lucy with her young son and is startled at the similarity of Guy when Guy was a little boy. Lisa goes to Micki and tries to get Micki to give Lisa another chance since Micki has become an obstacle in Lisa landing Burt again so that she will have a father for her baby. Teddy tells Holly that he is going out on a date with Kim since it looks like he and Holly will only be friends. Margaret corners Guy at home and demands to know if Eric is his son. Guy says he believes so, but Lucy denies it. Margaret asks Guy why he never brought Lucy around and Guy says he knew Margaret would never approve. Kim and Teddy go on their date and then Kim tells Teddy that she loves him and that they can have sex. The love word scares Teddy and he does not give in. Margaret says to guy that she wants her grandson.
