A fascinating site in Wiltshire, a massive mound that used to consist of a castle and town in a fortified position.

Historian Bettany Hughes and Ben Robinson present the story of Maiden Castle which is a massive hill with ridges around that was a fort over 2000 years ago. There are 200 of these around the British Isles, but this is the largest and was extended at one point to become twice the size. It took several generations to build, and the size is mammoth. The site is in the county of Dorset.

Bethany explores a Viking burial site in Suffolk England. A field consisting of 17 ancient burial mounds dating back 1300 years. The owner of the field donated all the artifacts that were unearthed there , to the British Museum.

This is about a little-known Roman site in Scotland, a 100 miles north of Hadrian's Wall, between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Named after the emperor Antonines Pius. There was a large wall but now there are ditches where the wall was. Bethany explains the history behind the site which was only used for 2 decades. This was the most northerly of Roman outposts. It was dismantled in 162 AD and the Romans retreated to Hadrian's Wall.
