Susan Calman finishes her Scottish odyssey on the spectacular Orkney Islands. From her approach, sailing past the Old Man of Hoy, the tallest sea stack in the UK, she is excited to be visiting this stunning setting for the first time. She delves into Scotland's ancient past at the 5000 year old village of Skara Brae, getting behind the scenes access to discover the home comforts of our Neolithic ancestors. She is then shown the secrets of an ancient burial site, where Vikings left graffiti that speaks down through the ages- and not all of it repeatable in polite company. The Vikings had a vital part to play in Orkney's history and Susan finds out more as she takes part in a Viking feast on the beach, complete with the authentic taste of grit in the bread! She takes to the waves once again, to help with the effort to conserve Orkney's brown crabs- but soon wishes she hadn't when the waves start coming over the boat. Settling her nerves, Susan pulls her first pint as she learns the secrets of Orkney's brewery. She then journeys across the stunning Scapa Flow, taking in the sombre and beautiful sight of a flotilla of scuttled World War 2 ships, visible above the waves to this day. Here, she discovers the secrets of Orkney's Italian chapel, another relic from the war era- and the site of a tale that moves her to tears.
