Eventually they find that two young adults, the only ones left on the planet earth, are operating them not knowing their playing has real consequences. The distress call came from the computer that did everything for the humans in the future which eventually led to their destruction. The computer was failing and needed Seaquest to destroy it so the two humans (boy and girl) could meet and socialize and repopulate the earth.
