Wild storms devastate Pearl Bay, wrecking the newly-opened bridge. Kevin finds himself in legal trouble when a European novelist sues him for the loss of his manuscript during the storm. Meanwhile, the council--freed of Bob, who is in a deep depression--considers life without their leader; Meredith and Harold come to grips with the fact that Heather Jelly is their daughter; and Laura finds that her relationship with Dan is finally stable, just as her ex-husband returns to their children's lives.

Vaya Con Dios to All That

Bob triumphantly returns to the Council just as his tax indiscretions come back to haunt him, but the prosecutor, an attractive young redhead named Katrina Fennessy, has a private proposition for him. Rupert begins planning ways to get his parents back together, unaware of the complexities of their separation, and Laura begins to realize that her relationship with Dan is built on shaky foundations when they begin discussing their long-term plans, and she realizes that she isn't able to let go of everything, and that's all he wants to do.

Broken Hearts and Crustaceans

In the aftermath of Dan's departure from Pearl Bay, Laura is a quivering wreck, reduced to adjourning trials so she can cry in the toilets. Bob and his new best friend, tax prosecutor Katrina Fennessy, set about establishing a community bank, taking in the money of every citizen in town. And renowned journalist Max Connors returns to Pearl Bay with his wife Elena, who can't comprehend the passionless reunion he has with his family. But before long, Max has uncovered something damaging about Bob's new scheme.

Sink or Swim

The citizens of Pearl Bay become a lynch mob when word spreads that Bob's community bank was a con, and the con artist Katrina Fennessy has fled town with $300,000 of their money. When she is found and returned to face trial, Bob finds himself secretly aiding her, while Meredith leads the charge against. Meanwhile, Laura finds herself clashing with new resident Max, and avoiding the manipulations of her ex-husband.

Episode 5

Head for Water

In the aftermath of Elena's death, the town rallies around Max, but he finds accepting their sympathies difficult. Sergeant Grey investigates the suspicious death of Bucket's dog, Alfonzo Domenico Jones. Carmen returns to Pearl Bay revitalized after her tragic loss, and proposes a newspaper to Max, who finds their partnership the perfect antidote to his grief.

Episode 6

The House That Jack Built

Pearl Bay is inundated with giant crabs, and Sergeant Grey attempts to trace their suspicious provenance. When Bob and Heather seek marriage counseling over their disappointing sex life, Heather realizes just how little her husband knows about her. And Jack makes a start on his new life: building a new house in Port Deakin and rekindling his friendship with Laura. But just as she begins to grow attached to him again, a devastating new truth is revealed.

Looking Forward to the Past

Max decides to leave town, only for a car accident to force him to remain. Meredith leads the citizens in uproar over corporate sponsorship of the annual Pork Festival, and Laura finds herself a pariah when she supports Bob instead. Karen, meanwhile, is surprisingly emotional when she learns that the sponsor's representative is Angus' ex-girlfriend.

Episode 8

Manna from Heaven

Tenzin Jetsunma, a former resident of Pearl Bay and now a Buddhist lecturer, returns to town to make amends with Meredith for a forty-year-old dispute. Her presence in town sets everyone on edge, as secrets are exposed throughout town. But, amidst the more mundane secrets - Heather's parentage, a suspicious sporting victory - some of the town are hiding a greater secret: a mass theft years earlier which has now come back to haunt them.

Episode 9

Playing with Fire

The church hall is destroyed in an explosion, and Sergeant Grey goes up against a free-spirited fire twirler. The case comes at the same time as a heatwave hits the town and sets everyone on edge. Laura finds her libido in overdrive and every man in town is drawn to her--but Max is the object of her affections. Kevin finds himself wanting to take his relationship with Phrani to the next level; Karen is horrified by the sexual awakening of those around her; and Miranda has her own awakening with Felix the fire twirler.

Episode 10

Not Such Great Expectations

Laura despairs when she fears that neither Rupert nor Miranda has ambitions for once they leave school. Meanwhile, Bob forces Craig into the world of real estate, but while he deals with desperate, penniless tenant, Craig discovers a deep secret about his family; and Max asks Laura to read the beginnings of his novel but is dissatisfied by her response.

Episode 11

Kitty Litter

An old reporter friend of Max's shows up in Pearl Bay, where he is surprised to learn how committed Max is to the local newspaper; then he invites Laura on a date, which exposes Max's true feelings for her. Miranda turns against her father after he moves in with his mistress, while Rupert finally realizes that his parents will never reunite. Tempers flare in court when Harold's long-estranged wife finds herself in a bitter dispute with her neighbor; and Heather attempts to force Bob to make nice with her recently-found parents, Harold and Meredith, but the process is harder than she expected.

Episode 12

Other People's Opinions

After Max passes out in Laura's bed, she attempts to sneak him out of her home discreetly... only to expose him to the whole town. As she attempts to clear her name, Laura is intrigued by the reactions of the townspeople--particularly of Max himself. Elsewhere, an Indian filmmaker plans a long con on Bob, brings home a family terror for Phrani, and has a powerful impact on Karen, who is rethinking her entire life philosophy after setting a wedding date with Angus.

Episode 13

Law and Order

The Pearl Bay courthouse is officially closed, leading Laura to plot a move back to the big city, despite the protests of her children and ex-husband, and Bob to make the opening gambit in increasing his political profile. The townspeople begin staging mass acts of civil disobedience, with the tacit assistance of Sergeant Grey, in the hopes of keeping the courthouse open. Events come to a head when Meredith, in a fit of rage, storms into the courthouse carrying a shotgun. Although Max defuses the situation, he quickly realizes that they can make the most of it, and he stages a siege to bring attention to the issue of the courthouse. As the siege goes on, Sergeant Grey realizes the limits of his police acumen, Bob must make a choice between his political corruption and the love of his life, and Laura's family attempt to make amends with one another. Inside the courthouse, meanwhile, the "hostages" one by one begin to re-evaluate their futures as they fake a siege, and keep strait-laced Laura - bunkered down in her office - from realizing the counterfeit nature of the crisis.
