Kate's world is rocked when her former lover, SAS officer Jim Roth, returns to Hammersley. Mike risks his career by refusing to co-operate with a high-ranking ASIO spy.

Crimes of Passion

Dutchy rescues a beautiful young woman, then finds that he is the prime suspect in a cold-blooded murder. The crew of the HMAS Hammersley rush to save a professional diver who is trapped in a shark cage. Mike puts his naval career on the line to help Kate to get her promotion. Kate has to make the most difficult decision of her life after she falls foul of Maxine.

Spoils of War

Midshipman Ryan White is pleasantly surprised that he can join mate 2Dads aboard the Hammersley, yet fears hazing until commander Flynn assures him he's quite safe, especially as the captain's godson, except for innocent pranks. Patroling in the Arafura Sea, the ship finds only corpses floating around a burning, sinking ship. It soon becomes clear these Iraqi refugees were abandoned by the human trader, who poses as a grieving father. Swain breaks the secrecy instructions when confronted again with one of the real, legally immigrated relatives. Ryan refuses to consider a life-saving organ donation to his ever-absent father, Stuart White, who gets crucial support from Flynn.

Dead Zone

The Hammersley must escort the 'monster', a prisoner, from Stokes Island to a mainland prison. The only doctor there, John Wallace, insists he's another victim of mining chemicals causing an excessive number of tumors on the island, especially in children. Fishery scientist Jason Merritt dismisses this as usual plot theory due to the doc's home-distilled rum. However the 'monster' dies while restrained and the exploded distillery is not the only target on Stokes Island. RO grudgingly helps Dutchy search for his secret service file after agent Cruise hinted at the war hero being a 'security risk', only to regret it. When Mike asks Maxine why his bone marrow matches Ryan's father unlike boy's, she lies first, then admits he's probably Ryan's biological father.

The Stinger

As part of the boarding party checking a possible FFV, Dutchy doesn't hide his surprise at seeing one of the crew is SAS Captain Jim Roth. His flash of recognition is noticed by the ship's master, and the question now is, has Jim's cover been blown? ASIO "spook" Madelaine Cruise is furious. She confirms that Jim was on a mission and insists CO Mike Flynn shadow the vessel in case Jim needs assistance. And so he does, after Dutchy sees two men fighting on the deck, and the subsequent boarding party finds an area awash with blood and Jim under a tarpaulin with a serious head wound.

Black Flights

2Dads and Charge come under fire while investigating a UFO sighting. Ryan and Bird befriend a young man with a tortured secret that could get them all killed. Charge hides a health scare that could end his navy career, and Mike suspects a local police chief of masterminding a major drug-smuggling operation.

Lifeline

To the captain's dismay, his son Ryan has left the Navy for Garth Davidson's private security company GD. Its yacht MV Sassy is involved in suspicious transport under diplomat Tagobe's inviolability cover in pirate-infested waters. During a diamonds shipping, only Davidson is believed to survive a pirate attack. The Hammersley crew, however, tracks down wounded Ryan, who confided only in the cook to be a secret service recruit and works out Davidson's dirty game, for which RO researches a dire motive.

Tragedy rocks HMAS Hammersley as the crew races to prevent a terrorist attack on a busy Australian port. Meanwhile, Kate and Dutchy discover ingredients for a radioactive 'dirty bomb' are being smuggled into Australia on illegal fishing boats, and Mike is stunned to realise SAS Officer Jim Roth has proposed to Kate - will he let the woman he loves marry another man?
