Their leader is a somewhat imposing figure who will only identify himself as King of the Wood. Tensions are growing between the workers and the protesters who are forcibly evicted and forced out of their camp. Meanwhile, Burden is investigating the case of a missing German girl, Ulrike Ranke who seems to have vanished into thin air. The girl's father has taken to living in Kingsmarkham and contacts Burden regularly on the status of the case. When they find her body in the woods Burden's instinct tells him he's dealing with a murder. They trace her to a pub where she'd called a taxi but the driver who picked her up, Trotter, is clearly hiding something. The Wexfords are once again grandparents but Reg is worried sick when Dora fails to arrive at their daughter Sheila's house. None of the taxi firms have any record of collecting someone at their house. When a second and then a third person who were to travel to London are reported missing, it's evident the disappearances are connected. In total 5 people are missing and all have been taken hostage by environmental terrorists calling themselves Sacred Globe.

Episode 5

All the vanished victims, including the dead German girl, seem to have ordered a taxi from a particular cab company. Dora blames Reg when Roxanne's dead body is found near the taxi stand and young Ryan apparently succumbs to Stockholm syndrome and joins the terrorists.
