4 Episodes 2012 - 2012
Episode 1
Cathal and Siobhan O'Donoghue live with their two sons in a small terraced house. With another baby on the way they need more space so they bought a rural 1970s bungalow just outside Tipperrary. However the rooms are pokey and cold. When the house was built in the 70s it was built paper thin and when heating oil was free, however even with a lot of sunshine the place remains freezing. The couple need Dermot to provide a warm sunny spacious family home fit for the 21st century.
Episode 2
Dermot meets Kathleen Roche who, with her husband, bought a four bedroom semi-detached in the early 70s in Bishopstown. After bringing up a family, and now a widow and having been alone for ten years, her daughter Marion is returning home from California with her husband Engel and their two children after working there for twelve years. Currently the house is not suitable for three generations of the family and Dermot has been tasked with turning it into the ultimate Californian style dream home.
Episode 3
Joe and Geraldine Mooney live in a 1930s family owned cottage which was built by their grandfather and later extended by their father. The couple bought their siblings' share of the home after their grandfather died in 1983 and now own it outright. They eventually moved to Glasnevin in 1991 where they run their business, and haven't been back to the cottage in 20 years. Their plan is to renovate the place and bequeath it to their daughter Lisa and her fiance Gavin to give them their own home when they get married.
Episode 4
Since the late 90s Emily Lavelle and her husband Ashley Hayes have lived in what appears to be an ideal Victorian terraced house in the highly sought-after Dublin suburb of Donnybrook. Originally divided up as self contained flats, and three children later, they have done very little to the house, and it shows. Most of the house is unused as it's cramped, dark and cold and the current 'flatland' layout is not suitable for them as it doesn't even have a bath. Dermot is called in to create an ideal 21st century bright spacious family home.
