6 Episodes 2011 - 2011
Episode 1
For the past four years Niall Murphy and Meadhbh Sherman have been living in a cramped but convenient flat in Cork. After 18 months they decided to trade up and bought a derelict 1920s cottage, 'Villa Maria', which was in a dire state and in need of a complete restoration. With so much work needing done can Dermot and new working partner QS Patricia Power save the house and complete on a budget of 140,000 Euros.
Episode 2
Dermot travels to Legan in Co. Longford to help Elaine and Hughie renovate the local pub purchased to create their ideal business and home. The front of the pub looks fine but the badly designed extension added to the rear of the living space by the previous owners is still a shell and has never been finished. Dermot's job is to redesign the current living quarters attached to the pub and make the extension work with the rest of the property.
Episode 3
10 years ago Steffen and Aideen Klauer bought a remote tiny 100-year-old ex-council cottage in the Wicklow Gap where they now live with their two, soon to be three, children. However the old house is damp and mouldy and is no longer suitable for a family of five and modern day life. The couple don't want fancy glass extensions or glossy finishes so Dermot needs to come up with a basic cheap plan for an extension which will suit the couple's needs.
Episode 4
Dermot helps Marcus and Margaret McDonnell's family rebuild and extend their cottage built in 1914 by their great grandparents which has been home to three generations of their family. A second house was added by his grandparents, and his now widowed grandmother is there on her own. They want the extension to include two bathrooms and five bedrooms, and living quarters for their Aunt May, who was born in the cottage. Dermot's plan is to add a two storey extension to the rear of the cottage, all on a budget of EUR 190,000.
Episode 5
Enda and Paula Roche live with their two (soon to be three) children in a 1950s six bedroom semi-detached home in Dalkey. It's damp, drafty, cold, has no insulation and has a strange layout. It's so cold they tend to use only smaller cosier rooms. The family's rebuilding plans keep changing causing Dermot's designs to require constant revision and a budget topping EUR 500,000, so the Roches decide to go back to basics with their original budget of EUR 200,000.
Episode 6
Lee Benn and John Rochford moved to Blackrock and bought a house at rock bottom price, but there was a catch. It's riddled with damp and rot, it's in a terrible state, it has mushrooms growing out of the walls and hasn't been touched since the 1970s. Dermot thinks they've bought the biggest can of worms ever and he has his work cut out on a build which throws up one challenge after another. It needs stripping out completely before he can consider a near rebuild on a budget of EUR160,000.
