Killiney

Eimear Farrell and her 8 year old daughter Hannah live in small a two storey house in Killiney with two big bedrooms upstairs but a tiny kitchen with a living room downstairs. Eimear's problem is that the kitchen is too small and with a budget of EUR20,000 she wants the entire downstairs completely re-modelled.

Episode 2

Glasnevin

This week Dermot is in Glasnevin with Terry and Peadar Clarke and their two children Luke and Marie Bernadette . Several years ago they had extended their three bed semi-detached and the house seems hemmed in by unnecessary walls. Peadar has had five hip replacements and won't be getting any more so he will soon end up in a wheelchair. The entire downstairs of their home needs to be redesigned to make it wheelchair friendly for Peadar, all on a Budget of 40,000 Euros.

Castleknock

Irene and Anthony Zambra live with their four children in Castleknock in a four bedroom semi-detached home they bought 11 years ago. They use an extension as a kitchen and dining area but use very little of the rest of the house which is inefficient and disjointed in many ways - it's cramped, doesn't get much sunlight and because there is no insulation, it's cold. Irene wants Dermot to give them a cosy, family oriented redesigned house to take full advantage of the sunlight they don't presently get.

Enniscorthy

John and Anna Kinsella bought their 19th century cottage in 2005 and as Anna is four months pregnant the couple need Dermot to renovate their old cottage and prepare their home for the new baby. It had already been remodelled in the 1980s but the present layout is so poor and the rooms are so damp and cramped the couple want the cottage revamped to have a more contemporary appeal.

Dalkey

Liz and Malcolm Currie have been living in a large four-bedroom house in Dalkey on Dublin's southside since 1991. It was built in the 1960s with a panoramic view of Dublin Bay. Dermot wants to add something dramatic and dynamic to the interior including a glass extension and decking to the house to take account of the view of the bay but his plans are way over the Curries' budget meaning Dermot's plans hang in the balance.

Ballygarrett

Podge and Jo Usher live in Tallaght and bought a holiday cottage in Ballygarrett in Wexford in 1996. In a few years time Podge will be retiring and they are looking forward to living permanently in their holiday retreat but their extended family has long outgrown the tiny two bedroom cottage. They want a conversion without sacrificing any of its 1930s traditional charm and their house needs a lot of work but in turning a holiday cottage into a permanent home Dermot's plans differ radically from what the Ushers want which leads to a battle of wills between clients and architect.
