Rocco Schiavone is cross-examined after the murder of Adele, the partner of his best friend Sebastiano. His superior, Questore Costa, and public prosecutor Baldi want to know why the fugitive Enzo Baiocchi, who is in hiding, broke into Rocco's apartment at night and tried to shoot him. For the Vice-Questore from Rome, who has been transferred to the remote Alpine valley as a punishment, it is now time to tell his story: about the loss of his beloved wife Marina to the bullets of a contract killer, about his friendship with criminals since his youth and about minor offenses in the line of duty. Rocco's report begins with a case from his time as an investigator in the capital. The body of a 20-year-old is found in a quarry. During the investigation, Rocco comes across drug deals and another victim. However, he doesn't just want to catch the dealers, but also the people behind them. The investigator has no idea how dangerous this is - because with his fearless nature he makes dangerous enemies who want to get rid of him.

Rocco knows he has to stop his childhood best friend to prevent further bloodshed.
