There she's hell-bent on taking a holiday after bumping into her romantic ex Gray. However secret agent Derek Lloyd desperately needs help to find the mythical Hindu bowl of unfortunate princess Parvati, as a diplomatic make up-gift for the Indonesian government, being its most Ancient relic. Dragging her repeatedly to the suspected site temple, they and Nigel face a crook rival and the web of riddles and traps. Meanwhile Karen uses her charms to approach the university's financial VP via his PA, in vain, and pleads an exception at the board given the unique net value of relics.

Nigel learns about orphan Sydney's youth in a less strict boarding school, when her then dorm buddy Darcy Lowe arrives with a trail to a Tutanchamun pendant and he scarred man who murdered Syd's mentor ethical relic hunter Dr. Alistair Newell. After a cat and mouse game with Cairo fence Ramez Suda and his spy monkey, it leads to Turkey. There the relic and its legendary magically complement are being auctioned at the secret 'Ancient order of thieves' Gural Nataz by relic fiend Tafik, whom Syd recognizes, ultimately as the murderer Fabrice De Viega, realizing scarred Cyrus's innocence.

Nigel and Sydney come to the rescue of model archaeology student crown prince Shareem who returns to his Middle Eastern country, where his father is dying, after they refused to help him search for the legendary ninth century Light of Truth, which displays treason on the face of whoever holds it. There they find Shareem, who escaped an attempt on his life thanks to utterly loyal Yusef, digging on the wrong spot due to dodgy relic hunter Frank Kafka, who works for a network of traitors, possible hinging around Shareem's uncle Sanjay.

Nigel reluctantly leaves Karen and comfort to bring his pirates knowledge along when Sydney is lured to Treasure Island by Jamie, the widow of dodgy but clever relic hunter Dash Palmerston, in search of a real treasure he left clues to. While other islanders are out to trick them and worse while Sydney dives around a great white shark, only Nigel's charms assure the cooperation of local admirer Samanatha with welcome ideas and island knowledge.

A sultan invites Sydney and Nigel to attend the funeral of her friend, the sultan's wife amateur-archaeologist Danielle, who died officially o the way to an education project in the desert, but also participated there in a secret dig. The sultan agreed to wed his daughter Alia to Jamal, the son of Hakim Mustafa, who leads a fundamentalist order which threatens to lunch a holy (civil) war otherwise. The only alternative to win enough popular support for the monarchy would be retrieving the long-lost star of Nadir, a jewel stolen from the Baghdad caliphs' court. Handed Danielle's research by sneaked-off Alia, the duo sets out to finish her research, but also has to deal with Mustafa goons who may seize it, while Jamal has a mind of his own.

Nigel only reluctantly lets Karen drag him along to travel after Sydney when she's persuaded to drop everything and visit Prague three days with literature professor and hit author Lucas Blackmer. He promised her a shot at the relic of ultimate vampire Vlad 'Dracula' Tepes the Impaler and confirms his Casanova reputation. It's in a dilapidated, booby-trapped castle. Nigel finds Lucas's suspicious side, Sydney learns the hard way, while both travel parties are pursued and attacked by henchman Kantor.

The bloodthirsty spirit of the warlike Aztec emperor Ahuitzotl is buried away in a magical puppet-shaped idol, locked inside a silver box in an atypically rock-dug temple. Following an accidental NSA satellite tip from agent Wayne Nugent and expensive guide Carlos, Nigel and Sidney find it, only to be left tied-up to die by Carlos, but wriggle lose. He takes it to his guerrilla rebel mates, but when he drops it and touches the ruby eyes is killed as if by radiation, leaving a corn stench. The heroes pick it up and find the next thief, who got it from their train compartment, died the same way. They decide to take the idol back, relying on Wayne's satellite to avoid the rebels, yet their colonel sneaks up on them in the temple.

New Guinea, 1522: A lancet bestows strength with its cut. 2001: Retrieving the lancet, Sydney and Nigel run into Nigel's look-alike just before his death. Nigel gets a cut from the lancet. Later, Cate persuades Nigel to impersonate the man.

Ancient king Minalysius of Skiros island devises a magical golden necklace to force his will upon princess bride Nabina. Ruthless rival relic hunter Carson Inez, who owns the island, has her fiends kidnap Sydney and use the same collar to make her into a willless cahoot in the chase for the pinnacle of Inez's private collection of Minalysius artifacts: the golden statue of Athena, before it may be destroyed in the impending volcanic eruption. Nigel and Karen smell a rat as Sydney tells them to butt out, so Nigel comes to the island as the Ancient scripts expert. He must work out what's on, talk sense into Syndey and train her to survive the exceptionally ingenious traps Minalysius had installed by an Egyptian master architect.

An amulet lost by Salem witch Sunna as her entire coven was arrested in 1692, destined for the stake, is found by Sydney's A-student Meg Ryerson's ignorant room-mate Christy, but when Meg reads the Latin inscription, she fall ill, unable to attend her exam. Shy frat-boy Doug Bennett, Meg's boyfriend, tells his party animal frat president Blake Stoffel, who is most interested and uses his magical powers to steal the amulet. Nigel, Christy, Sydney and blind magic expert Zanda Wilkes set out to track down the amulet and its powers, while Blake will stop at nothing to decuple his powers with it.

Nigel holds the fort in Trinity college while Sydney and a TV crew from petty station Women Want to Know search highland caves on Gamorran (SE Asian) island for an eleventh century Hindu statue. She, neurotic presenter Trish Gardner and solid cameraman Zack are trapped as Colonel Sursur's island revolutionary men close in on the temple cave, eager for Western hostages. While station manager Wes came to college for a short interview with Nigel, they learn from the situation and join forces, with Karen, to lean on the consulate to organize a rescue mission.

Sydney initially acts suspicious until assured the relics are for a museum as rich Indian entrepreneur Bobby Green wants to hire her to look for a mysterious tribe's atypical sanctuary from a 'cargo culture' that apparently venerates aliens, apparently since a meteor cataclysm six centuries ago, bringing a totem carving from his tribal reserve. Indeed Nigel and she dig up a metal plate with similar markings there. Before they can finish the dig, which is shielded by the tribal sheriff Dark Feather, the collector insists they meet at the airstrip, but is himself arrested by Major James Hillhurst's mysterious NIA agency, charged with covering up alien evidence, which even has access to satellite surveillance, while the reserve police now saves them from apprehension.

An urn commissioned in a Cambodian monastery by the Chinese emperor for the remains of Confucius is about to be destroyed by systematic bombing of a whole province - so DeViega, Sidney's mentor's Gural Nataz murderer, tricks and kidnaps her and Nigel (and their secretary on the home front, as additional blackmail leverage) to get to it through a heavy mined area and decipher the I-ching on the way in before bombs hit it.

Sydney drags Nigel along to Istanbul, having heard her former mentor professor Alan Evans is missing. He's actually murdered, they can barely convince Turkish police detective Kemal Ochmar not to arrest them for breaking into his room but join forces to investigate who was after what clues. It's the work of a modern feminist extremist 'Amazons sisterhood', whose ruthless leader Natasha Tripova breaks out of jail by sheer force. While working out they're after the legendary magical gold belt of Amazon queen Hippolyte, whom only Hercules could wrestle down and win as bride, Nigel gets abducted like Evans before to decipher inscriptions, which he does brilliantly. Sydney only comes to the rescue when he's already venturing into the booby-trapped mausoleum.

Despite terrible weather, Sidney drags Nigel along to an Arctic base where an ancient Indian mummy has been found. It turns out to be an Anasazi, from warmer hunting ground, but also connected with the numerous deaths on the small base - will they ever get back alive?

It turns out to be the burial cross of King Arthur, but besides the victim several others are looking for it, and more killing follows while they search for it in its historical hiding place and unravel the murderous plot.

When Nigel is charmed by brilliant student Lorraine to show her their offices (and kiss), a burglar knocks out Sidney, but what was robbed? They find out in Madrid, where Professor Lamenza invited them to follow the trail of the Spanish crown hidden from Napoleons army by Carlos IV, the necessary filters to read lemon ink have been switched, and Lorraine is actually Reena, who has teamed up with her lover Raoul to get the crown which everyone goes in search of in Andalusia, while trying to get rid of the others.

Sidney inherits from the best relic hunter of the previous generation a key, and rushes with Nigel on the hunt for the one treasure he never found: Pandora's box, which was guarded by the clan of the Persian sultanate of An-Najaf. The (equally fictitious) successor state is however in revolution, and though a resourceful local father proves a welcome guide in the capital, the military dictator has taken residence in the ancient palace, plundering all archaeological remains...

Sydney drags Nigel along on an ill-prepared quest for the legendary saddle that allegedly gave 15th century warrior princess Kahina the power to unite the tribal clans of Bekkastan and rule it gloriously. The Bekken tribe fell apart again, but amazon Haya, who is Kahina's spitting image, claims to revive the throne, so the saddle would be the perfect asset. While Sydney pursues horse thief Tobar, Haya practically seduces Nigel to help her find it, but he also meets Sarkan, the evil 'vizir' behind her prospective throne, who plots to seize power once she has it. Sydney learns that Tobar is Haya's twin brother, banished by Sarkan's doing, but nobly fit to rule. They make friends and rejoin the cave dig, where they and Nigel must deal with the divided Bekkens and Kahina's legacy.

While Nigel rehearses his keynote speech in a Seville hotel room, a woman nearly breaks his nose demanding something. It turns out she was after the water from the Fountain of Youth, which the dying explorer Ponce de Leon sent to the Spanish king, who sent one bottle via the English ambassador to Elizabeth I. Nigel's brother Preston is desperate to find it in order to save his British Museum job. As Duke Andrew, the ambassador's heir, only agreed to see him within 48 hours, Preston and Sydney are off to England. Nigel stays for his speech and equally disastrous workshop but joins them by the time they are scheming against Sean James, a rival relic hunter and the duke's gambling creditor.

When Sidney and Nigel are about to enter the site of a Bristol lecture, a surprisingly young author on the Celts approaches them to follow up immediately on a tip about a map to the "astronomicons", the lost keys to the druid cult in Stonehenge, hidden since the Romans conquered Britain. The soon learn it is an occasion to steal the map from the Gurul Nataz, it comes with an armed bomb and the youngster is no author but Andreas, the honest son of Sid's arch-enemy Fabrice De Viega -who survived, as they suspected. Junior assures them he hates his dad even more, being duped in a boarding school since his mother's death, but it turns out Fabrice risks everything to help them in order to save Andreas' life - but can even this bizarre alliance brave the ruthless crime syndicate?
