Jimmy finds himself the easy victim of the supermarket's reinstated ex-con clerk and Sabrina's attempts to restore her humiliated husband's confidence keep backfiring. The Chance couple can't resist the temptation to print and spend a lot they never earned, which causes a devastating devaluation.

However he's defending a murder-suspect and decides he needs to counter he prosecutor's flashy co-counsels with his own 'lookers', and decides to hire Burt and Virginia for the part, which ultimately gets extended to standing in, despite ignorance concerning penal law and procedure.

Burt makes a bad fall, landing him in a wheelchair, and is instantly suspicious, claiming Gary, who forces him to a humiliating thumb war, abuses his wife, even ax-murders her, but the police deputizes Barney as auxiliary officer as only response to the Chances, who exceeded the quota of loony calls. The truth about Gary proves even less likely.
