New York Archbishop Argento personally discusses the murder of a priest in his church, where paintings are being restored by a atheist professional and amateur-expert nun Agnes. The ritualistic MO suggests a link to the victim's activity as exorcist, and a culprit presuming to be demonically possessed. After determining that the priest's last patient lacks the self-control necessary to commit the murder, Malcolm consults with Martin, who in turn draws in Friar Pete, another patient at Claremont psych ward, expert in exorcism and fellow escape plotter. Malcolm needs their advice to deal with both diabolic mindset and hallucinogenic lead paint poisoning. Gil is duped by Jessica as she fears to bring disaster to partners and must step in to help JT, who finds prejudice compromises even leading police teams, not only confronted with Texan bigots.

Martin's simpleton ex-cellmate Jerry falls to his death shortly before his scheduled release, having aroused jealousy in therapy group. Gil must admit he was actually murdered, so Malcolm is forced to work closely with his father, and his clerical mate Pete, as they witnessed Jerry's death and know everyone there well. Ainsley starts remembering after seeing an identical image of the carpet Malcolm used to wrap Endicott's body and demands he tells her the truth about that night, in vain. Jessica also gets suspicious and calls Martin, who only hints that something might have happened. Jerry's prison girlfriend Rhonda, who seduced a guard for the keys, claims Martin killed him as part of his escape plan, but Malcolm soon realizes he was misdirected: Rhonda killed Jerry, frustrated to be 'left behind' and wants to kill Martin for "curing" him. Pursued, Rhonda gets hold of Malcolm, only Martin abandoning his escape at the arrival of Dani save his life. Jessica forces Malcolm to admit the truth, but is sworn to secrecy to Ainsley.

Malcolm's latest case, serial murders to cover up Endicott's courier network which he brilliantly used to dispose of Nicholas's corpse, forces him to cross paths with British Europol star profiler and hit author Hoxley, who announces to the press that Endicott's murder was part of a larger conspiracy involving a network of international smugglers. Hoxley soon proves himself about as smart as Malcolm, deducing that Endicott was murdered in Jessica's townhouse and that Martin helped dispose of the body; however, he concludes that Malcolm, not Ainsley, stabbed Endicott. Malcolm turns his focus to solving the case: based on Hoxley's previous work, he realizes that someone is killing everyone involved with the disposal of Endicott's remains. Forced to deceive his own team, he tracks down the last remaining courier, a woman named Natalie, to save her, but ultimately finds she's the real killer, who knows about his role in Endicott's murder. With Martin's help by phone, Malcolm stops Nat from killing Hoxley, but she refuses his help and ends up impaled. A grateful Hoxley declares that Natalie killed Endicott in an interview with Ainsley. Martin is confronted by infirmary Dr. Vivian Capshaw for stealing surgical scissors, which she reclaims; they briefly kiss.

Despite Gil's fatherly concerns, Bright throws himself into a new case involving an escalating killer that has Edrisa's online vigilante group, known as the "Killabustas," trying to stop him. Meanwhile, Jessica realizes that she must dive deep into her past traumas in order to write a book and may need Gil's help to do it.

Malcolm feels guilty and professionally laughable for failing so far to track down his father and life-lo,g profiling object, but is in no mood to be shoved aside by the incompetent federal agent as his knowledge is the best trump to catch Martin. He soon comes to suspect rightly that the escape required inside help, and guesses that came from Dr. Vivian Capshaw, whose psychological profile and covered-up track record confirm she probably is a serial killer herself, likely to turn Martin into a lover/victim. Indeed he's injected to be wheelchair-stuck and fails her loyalty test by phoning Malcolm. Malcolm pushes on, despite Gil asking him to bow out, and contacts Vivian, who only accepts to bring him to Martin if she can inject him, raising the stakes for Martin in a seemingly hopeless position.
