Laamu. When you hear that name, what exactly do you think of? It's a foreign, yet exotic word for shore, but what could it possibly mean, and where does the name come from? If the sound of the word "Laamu" instantly transports you deep into the Indian Ocean where the vibrancy of corals mix perfectly with the granary of the Inner Islands, then you're off to a good start. 500 miles south of the tip of India, it's a land where volcanoes once were king, ripping through crystal clear waters to slowly build up the islands of the Maldives. It would take nearly another 30 million years before the 26 Atolls that make up the Maldives would form and Laamu is the largest of them all. Fitting, because the name itself means first seen part.
