Josh's day consists of stopping by Mum's house before heading to Dad and Mae's, they who are hosting a dinner for him, Arnold, and Arnold's parents, Donna and Bruce. This dinner gathering will be the first for this grouping since the disaster that was Arnold's birthday party. Josh passive-aggressively deals with what he feels is an attack on and/or desertion of his life this day, that feeling starting with an impromptu threesome with Kyle who he and Arnold picked up at the drag club the evening before, moving to something that Mum does, to the overall nature of the discussion around the dinner table. Feeling like he needs a touchstone, he turns first to Claire, and then to Tom. However, issues that are happening in both their lives at this current moment may make Josh feel like he's left out in the lurch without anyone to turn to.

Porridge

It's Hannah's birthday. To celebrate, Josh, Arnold, Tom and Ella take her on a weekend camping trip. The weekend starts off with ebbs and flows of highs and lows, the latter largely due to things forgotten in favor of things remembered, a few party games, and a discovery on the beach. For Josh and Arnold, the weekend slowly but quietly evolves into an examination of their relationship, that evolution which eventually affects the tone of the getaway for everyone. Meanwhile, Rose is by herself for the weekend with none of her usual supports around. Although there is the telephone to contact Josh if need be, Rose decides to deal with her depression and anxiety on her own.

Beluga Caviar

Josh has reentered the dating pool following breaking up with Arnold. However, the two are scheduled to meet to discuss things. With the dating, Josh finds that his efforts to find someone even remotely compatible is difficult, which still doesn't stop him and the men he eventually does meet from having a one-nighter. What he considers a sure thing doesn't quite end up the way he anticipates. And even with those few with who a second date is a possibility, issues still abound. In needing to talk about his sex life concerning a minor scare, he is forced to confront what he is doing head on. Meanwhile, Tom and Ella have started looking for a new place to live. And in Hannah taking up a new hobby, Rose feels like she is neglecting her even more than usual.

Degustation

Josh wants to do something nice for and with his parents in light of Hannah having moved out due to her and Rose's latest argument, the resulting estrangement between the two women, and Rose again feeling abandoned. What Josh decides is a fancy dinner out: a fifteen course tasting menu complete with wine pairings at an upscale restaurant. Josh does this despite Alan being Alan in wanting to be the responsible parent in criticizing Josh for the extravagance which Alan feels he cannot afford. The three discuss everything concerning their lives, past, present and future, including their selves as a family unit. The issue of Hannah does eventually arise, Josh who hopes to be some small part in bringing Hannah back into Rose's life. Rose ultimately confesses something in private to Josh which colors the discussions and actions as the unusual dessert arrives and as the thee family members part company for the night.

Burrito Bowl

Tom takes Ella to the medical clinic to check out a lump on her breast which may or may not be cancer. Following the examination, Tom and Ella change their focus from the lump to the hotness of the doctor and Ella's attraction or not to him. Hannah's ex-girlfriend Kyah, a recently tenured professor, gets in touch with her seemingly wanting to get back together, despite Kyah being the one who called it off between them in the first place. Kyah's return only strengthens Hannah's feelings of low self-worth. And Josh runs into Geoffrey. Beyond their still obvious physical attraction to each other, they have to decide if there is enough in their relationship to give it one more try. All these issues take a back seat when Josh goes to visit his Mum, that visit which places the fancy dinner out with both her and his Dad in clearer context.

Souvlaki

Josh and those to who he is close are all adjusting logistically and emotionally with Rose's passing. Despite Josh dealing with his own grief, Mae asks him to speak to his father, who Mae believes is internalizing his own feelings, as she has not seen any outward expressions of grief from him. Although Tom and Ella have now long talked about moving out of the house into their own place, they as individuals are having mixed feelings as Tom seems to be progressing more on the issue now than he had before Rose's death, while Ella does not want to abandon Josh in his own time of grief. The one person who does not seem to be around either to help him grieve or show support in any other way is Claire, which irks Josh as one of his closest friends. Josh is dealing with the sale of his mother's house, which he has to decide if to proceed as emotionally it feels like losing his mother all over again. The house may be the biggest but is only one of many triggers which will send Josh into a crying fit of emotions. Josh feels lucky in that he has free counseling sessions with a therapist named Siobhan, who may help him deal with what he is feeling. Through it all, Josh, his friends and his surviving family members may find that the places have changed, but much of their lives remain the same in the post Rose world.
