A new assignment sees the platoon tasked to guard Iraqi prisoners in a poorly set up, makeshift compound. At this point, a new lieutenant takes command of the platoon and is determined to get rid of Pvt. Maurice Williams, aka Smoke. The Lt. makes it known to Sgt. Chris Silas, aka Scream, that he does not like nicknames. One of his first actions was to inform Pvt. Brenda Mitchell, aka Mrs. B, that her son is ill, having been diagnosed with autism. He offers her a five-day compassionate leave to visit her son, which she immediately accepts and departs for home. Meanwhile, Pfc. Bo Rider is now at home trying to adjust to life as an amputee with his wife Terry and their baby son 'Tank'.

During a personal interview, Captain Baron is determined to convince Sgt. Chris 'Scream' Silas to reenlist. Scream, even more determined, assures him that he plans to leave the army when his current contract expires in ten days. Scream's squad is assigned to a village with orders to enforce an eviction notice on what turns out to be an orphanage run by Sophie, a French national.. The orders apparently originate from the interim government who wish to use the structure for a police headquarters. Shortly after Scream informs Sophie that she has until Friday to vacate the premises, a car bomb explodes just outside the building with tragic results. Meanwhile back stateside, Bo is still working on upgrading his physical condition while Terry tries to find out why he hasn't been paid since his injury.

On the home front, after his brutal fight with his father, Bo, somewhat bruised, returns home to a very sympathetic Terry. Sergio and Vanessa both send passionate pleas, via video, to their loved ones in Iraq. Meanwhile, in war-torn Iraq, Lt. Alexander 'Underpants' Hunter sends his platoon on yet another ill-conceived assault resulting in the loss of more of his men. Back at camp, Sgt. Chris 'Scream' Silas begs Captain Jonathan 'Duke' Baron to reassign the Lt to another unit - request denied. The platoon is then tasked with escorting a large convoy of civilian trucks down what is touted to be the "most dangerous highway in the world". Pfc. Esmeralda 'Doublewide' Del Rio and Pvt. Brenda 'Mrs. B' Mitchell are assigned to drive the convoy's lead truck transporting the bulk of the soldiers. Well into the drive, the women spot a young boy standing alone in the middle of the highway frantically waving his arms. Lt. Underpants orders them to drive over the youth. Pfc. Doublewide adamantly refuses.
