Working class New Jersey parents Mike and Kay duly dread the result of an IQ test, which confirms third son Marc, who composes his own opera, is a genius, like elder siblings Brian and Nicole, who constantly outsmart and look down on their 'educators', while rivaling mutually, unlike 'simpleton' kid sister Leila. Asa consolation, the parents have their heart set on a single 'normal' beach weekend, but the smart kids have intellectually more stimulating plans. Only Brian agrees if he can bring a friend -which they wish they'ld find for years- but to their horror introduces elder fellow nerd Stu, who is dying to hear from his Stanford admission officer. Dirty tricks are played on all sides.

Mike and Kay find Brian 3D-printing an artificial heart valve, but mistake it for a female private part, so try to give Brian and Nicole the sex talk. That backfires as the children end up giving them the talk instead, having become convinced that they're old enough to be having sex, even fear missing out so far. Brian prints a 3D face to practice kissing. Nicole criteria list-rates potential boys for her first kiss till Leila gets into her so worried to be bad at it that she wants to try practice-kissing her brother's 3D face, which he refuses. Kay and Mike catch them fighting over it and help the children realize that there's no need to rush, just wait you feel ready.

Grandpa Jay insists to teach Brian driving, while the knave feels cars outdated anyway preferring a Segway, and tries behind Mike's back when he switches from leaving it to the boy when he learns to being the one to teach him, but scaring Brian causes more problems. Sylvia not only criticizes her daughter-in-law but also questions Nicole about her, and thus has a confidential bond Kay craves, taking shape in shopping and so on, but Nicole soon grows weary of being shaped herself.

Mike and Kay want to welcome Nicole's first boyfriend Tyler, but Kay is convinced the fresh teen will break her heart, like she did as class flirt and mechanic Doug did to her in high school, but Nicole trusts on her superior intellect and cerebral standards and when it happens, Nicole's advise rather backfires.

Mike and Kay worry about Nicole, who even punishes herself after 'just' winning at about anything, as she won't be prepared for losing in real life. So Mike convinces her to enter a pageant, but worries the super-fast learner might not lose, hence leans on his neighbor in the jury, but Kay gets cold feet, yet Nicole has other priorities then they assumed.

To proud to accept a 'pity invitation' from their neighbors Irwin and Rita, Mike and Kay decide it's time to make other adult friends of their own, but who? At Brain and Nicole's school science fair preparations, they meet the kids' genius project partner Atticus's parents, Sigmund and Beth, who are nearly as eager, once they get it, to break out of social isolation in the brainiac ghetto. Mike's basement becomes the quartet's party lodge, but Sigmund enjoys it too much, landing drunk in a casino, while holding the memory stick they must deliver to the fair. Marc find humor hard to learn, as there is no intellectual definition.
