In the summer of 1945, 89-year-old Marshal Petain, was called to answer a charge of high treason. In 1940, he had become head of the Vichy regime. When General de Gaulle took charge, Petain was accused of crimes against France.

June 1916, the High Court of Justice accused Sir Roger Casement of high treason. The Irishman had landed on the coast of Ireland on a German submarine three days before the armed uprising in Dublin on Good Friday.
