New Zealand: Earth's Mythical Islands

A lightly presented nature documentary series. In each season, adventurous British zoologist Steve Backshall travels around the world to select sixty of the most deadly and interesting animal species, from insects to giants, many predators, others just armed with deadly defensive means. Every episode yields three or more of them, with something in common, such as the geographical environment, or a mode of killing. A few extra episodes are dedicated to extras such as 'the making of'.

Malawi is a small African country that has made a big push to protect its wildlife. Leading the effort is American veterinarian Dr. Amanda Salb and her colleagues at the country's only animal rescue center, where injured and abandoned creatures are saved and rehabilitated. This six-part series follows the dedicated team as they care for a variety of patients, including vervet monkeys, bulbuls, baboons, hedgehogs, and many more, often working with limited resources and in dangerous conditions as they prepare the animals to return to the wild.

An in-depth behind the scenes look at Taronga Zoo in Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo. The series highlights the dedicated staff and the unique challenges they face. Narrated by Naomi Watts (s. 1-3) and Virginia Gay (s. 4-).
