Shakespeare and the Wild West - Follow Nebraska Shakespeare to the heart of cowboy country to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the Omaha based theater company as they prepare and perform the Twelfth Night. Blizzard of 1949 - In a fateful winter spanning from November 1948 to February 1949, a barrage of blizzards unleashed havoc across the Northern Great Plains. As snow descended from the sky, the ground was transformed into treacherous barriers, burying houses and bringing train tracks to a standstill. The dire situation reached a tipping point when millions of cattle faced the threat of starvation in their snow-covered pastures. This galvanized the United States military into action as the Air Force took to the skies, deploying cargo planes laden with hay bales, delivering a lifeline to the livestock below. At the same time, the Army ventured into the storm to rescue stranded people who were at the mercy of nature's wrath. Music from Ashes - Twelve million years ago volcanic ash buried living elephants, camels and rhinos in Northeast Nebraska. Their skeletons are still being uncovered. This cataclysmic event inspired composer Rusty Banks to write a score for the Nebraska Chamber Players' 15th anniversary. Wildcat Hills - In a state known for its flat land, the Wildcat Hills in western Nebraska provides a dramatic alternative. The landscape is a unique co-existence of prairie and mountain ecosystems, featuring beautiful rolling hills, rocky formations and habitats for unique plant and animal species. A local range land ecologist takes us on a walk in the wild lands of the Wildcat Hills. Forgotten No More - For the first time, a group of Nebraska Korean War veterans visit the war memorial in Washington D.C. that honors their service and sacrifice. While the Korean War has been dubbed The Forgotten War, these veterans never forgot their experiences and they'll remember their visit to the war memorial for the rest of their lives. The Bravest Husker - During the last Husker spring game a little boy named Jack, who suffers from brain cancer, made the run of his life. We put his now famous video in context by interviewing the Hoffman family in their hometown of Atkinson. Play Me I'm Yours - As part of an international experiment Omaha artists decorate pianos, which are then rolled out around the city, resulting in impromptu street concerts with all types of music. We feature some of these performances--some good, some not so good and learn how this unique project brings a mix of music and art directly to the people.

KEEPING THE GRAND... GRAND - The 75-year-old Grand Theater, built in the glory days of cinema, has been fully restored to former art deco glory thanks to a dedicated cadre of Grand Island volunteers. We look back at its heyday as the Grand Island radio players stage "The War of the Worlds." Wheels... ride... puddle jumper... Detroit glitz. From basic to luxury, cars are deep-seated in our culture. In this edition of Nebraska Stories, we're taking a ride on the wild side as we feature two Nebraska car stories that garnered national attention. The Lambrecht Chevrolet Auction with its pasture of some 500 vintage cars attracted people from every state in the union and 25 countries. Some came to bid, most came to be a part of this unique event in automotive history that put the town of Pierce on the national map. Cars are our independence, they're connected to our identity and they're part of our family history. In Bennington, a father-son project fifty years in the making won one of the top hot rod trophies in the world, The Ridler Award. Presented annually at the Detroit Autorama, the nation's leading indoor custom car show, Ron Cizek's 1940 Ford Coupe is the labor of Andy Leach, an up-and-coming fabricator whose work on "Checkered Past" is as much about art as it is about muscle.
