Ho Ho No

Susan treats Ben to a Christmas hotel break supposedly just for the two of them, but she has secretly invited other family members, including Alfie and his strange Uncle Idris and Michael's left-wing girl-friend Gwen. Abi is also working as the hotel's masseuse. Crystal, a patient besotted with Ben, arrives to say her jealous boy-friend has escaped from jail and is on his way to kill Ben. Fortunately he is caught but Ben still has to face the rest of the family, though all ends well in a room full of presents.

Episode 1

The Parent Trap

Michael's girlfriend Nikki announces that she might be pregnant. Her religious parents want the couple to get married and are prepared to start a fund for the child. They even come to the Harpers' to discuss it. However after they have been alone in the sitting room for a while, Ben goes to investigate. The 'family' are burglars who have not only robbed Ben but taken the expensive plasma television set he was minding for the man next door.

Episode 2

Let's Not Be Heisty

Ben and Janey are in the bank where Ben is paying in Alfie's rent cheque when an argumentative woman called Joan and her husband Gary prove to be robbers who take the Harpers and some bank employees as hostages. Janey is released by the bickering couple in exchange for food for them, leaving Ben as the self-appointed negotiator, which does not go well with either side though eventually the police storm the building and everybody is released. Michael takes advantage of the fact that the family liaison officer is an attractive young woman who comes to the house to see if he is all right.

Episode 3

Cards on the Table

Whilst Ben spends his nights at poker school Susan becomes convinced that clairvoyant Zelda Nobbs truly knows what the future holds for the Harpers though unfortunately this involves Ben dying at four minutes past nine on Thursday so the couple decide to spend his last night on earth having sex. In the event Zelda is proved wrong and to celebrate the Harpers decide to holiday in Venice. Roger complains that Abi is spending nights out with her friends so Susan suggests he join the poker school.

Episode 4

The Wax Job

When Cavatex, a giant dental company whose mascot is Bristles the Bear - and which Ben despises - offers to buy out his practice he agrees, hoping that it will give him more free time. He takes up a hobby painting miniatures of famous battles, using Alfie's room so that Alfie has to move in with Michael, but he soon gets bored and helps Susan when she has to design an exhibition for the art gallery. When the money he receives from Cavatex turns out to be much less than expected he goes cap in hand to them to get his job back.

Episode 5

Neighbour Wars

Having accidentally run over Mr Casey's dog some while earlier Ben now runs over Mr Casey . Anxious for Mr Casey to sign a disclaimer so that he will not sue him Ben allows him to recuperate in the Harpers house whilst Susan is away on holiday with Kenzo. The insurance investigator suspects a scam and so Ben is determined to catch Mr Casey out but unfortunately sets fire to his bedroom so that in the event both men end up making a claim.

Episode 6

Can't Get No Satisfaction

Kenzo is learning to play the piano - not very well - whilst Ben decides to reform the Revolutions, the group he fronted as a young man. The guys get back together but soon decide that Ben's performance as lead singer is lacking and they plan to sack him. Susan is left to tell him but hasn't the heart, until he criticizes Kenzo at the school concert. Meanwhile Alfie and Michael go on a double date but each has to pretend to be the other when their photos get mixed up.

Episode 7

The Abi Habit

The Harpers have not had sex in a while so Susan decides that if they remain abstinent for a further period it will be all the more fulfilling when they get round to it. Ben is less convinced. Janey discovers the reason for her new boyfriend's reticence when it comes to sex - he still lives with his mother though she claims not to be concerned. Abi meanwhile somewhat inexplicably decides that she wants to become a nun and whilst Roger visits her at the convent to dissuade he fails and goes home a broken man.
