After a Chicago profiler training, young commissioner Hinnerk Feldmann accepts the deputy post in Theo Clüver's tiny, singular precinct covering German Frisian North Sea Island Sylt. A tourist lover couple accidentally drugs up in the dunes a 20 years old corpse, soon identified as equally long missing local then-teenager Maria, but her death could have been accidental. Shortly after, a local man is executed in cruel feudal-age fashion, tied onto a steering wheel in the dunes, but first drugged. The syringe is used again during the investigation, which closes in on has-been rock band Coast Pirates. Meanwhile Feldmann has a hard time dealing with the locals.

A severed arm beaches up on Sylt island, probably cut off by a ship. The police gets the coast guard to search the main corpse. Theo Clüver's team suspect a link with the recent report of a corpse seen on a nearby hotel(s parking lot, reported to uniformed colleague Lund but it disappeared before he arrived. Theo Clüver and brilliant nerd colleague Hinnerk Feldmann, whom he pushes to offer lodgings to their detective Ina Behrendsen, whose demented grandfather burnt down her house, work out the uncooperative hotel owner Hannah Kronenhaben is the daughter of a jeweler killed in a robbery years ago, never properly solved, but probably committed by the victim and at least one member of his surfers gang. Attorney Sven Jansen, one of them, was preparing his yacht to lend it to the victim, a third surfer about to end his -him-only- jail sentence recently escaped and roams about, Cluver's acquaintance lawyer Hans Börschig needs pushing to cooperate, even after someone tries to torture Sven, probably for the still missing big loot. More crimes follow.

Josef Wenzel and Bibi Lemberg's Nobel restaurant's star chef Nobu is found washed up on the beach, beaten and fatally shot. While Theo Clüver and Hinnerk Feldmann's police team works out Nobu made enemies, Bibi disappears from her blooded car, a huge ransom is demanded which Jozef' can't afford, but Theo blackmails the bank to put up a loan above the indebted restaurant's tax fraud proceeds. The ransom is collected brilliantly unnoticed, but the surprises keep coming.

Sex club owner Ronny Klöcker's naked corpse is found at home by illegal Syrian cleaner Jamila after a fatal staircase fall, midst sex toys as used in a wild night with four hen night sluts, who claim to remember nothing. Klöcker's apparent self-asphyxiation is red out after a rape drug is found. Detective Hinnerk happened to end up with the quartet in the bride's home after a male strip act, his vague memories and lost cellphone pictures prove crucial. Clüver examines Jamila's teen son Amoud, the club's free-lance janitor Karmann whi moonlighted as male stripper and a party girl's obsessive stalker-ex Mark Seitz before bumping into a ghost from Ronnys dark past.

When Sylt's municipal island council president, filthy-rich real estate entrepreneur and art collector-Maecenas Wilfried König, returns from town hall at night, he finds on his bed the naked corpse, wrist-lit, of his gym's personal trainer, Ivorian diplomat's son Samy Adiaffi, a playboy and his discrete gay lover, who left a vague suicide note. Fearing a reputation-wrecking scandal, Königs implores his visiting friend, GP Gunnar Graber, to help dispose of the body in the sea at night. Next says anonymous photos of their nocturnal escapade accompany the blackmail demand: a priceless painting, which he delivers. Only when gay commissioner Hinnerk Feldmann tracks down for finders fee the owner of a precious watch actually donated to the meanwhile missing victim, chief Theo Clüver takes seriously the presumed 'weak excuse' of arrested drunk teen rowdies who wanted a deal for reporting they saw two men dispose of a corpse where the watch was found. König's wife Brigitta once dumped Clüver to wed Wilfried and leans on him now as her husband gets discredited. While the team digs up more secrets, Adiaffi is seen alive and the pictures trace to ex-cop private detective Heiner Landwehr.

While newly-independent realtor Susanna Wagner show the rich Swiss family Tönss, which specially flow in, a luxury villa on Sylt, their inquisitive pre-teen son Joshua finds the owner's corpse in a garbage big in the garden house. Hinnerk commiserates with foxy Susanna Wagner and is seduced into an affair. Her former employer Bendix Böckelmann may have arranged revenge for her treason costing him such a fat account, but it's more complex as it's in a large zone of the area fit for a nearly-arranged major development around a nudist colony and its tycoon CEO, who has a colorful record and vast real estate empire. Hinnerk is up for a scary surprise. Clüver meanwhile resolves to resign after the case, to spend time with his long-neglected family.
