A lot is happening with the Lübeck investigators: Not only has Gregor Michalski joined the team, but colleague Nina Weiss has also returned to work after her parental leave, much to the delight of Finn and Lars. Public prosecutor Dr. Zobel has also returned from Kiel. The new team is immediately in demand: social worker Paul Rauh was hit by a car in front of the youth welfare office and succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene. According to eyewitnesses, he was deliberately run over; no trace of the driver or the car has been found. As the victim's cell phone reveals, the deceased had spoken to Joachim Schreiber on the phone immediately before the crime, who quickly became a strong suspect. The auto mechanic was Rauh's toughest case: the depressed man is addicted to alcohol and medication. His children, Tom and Anna, try to support their father and, in addition to running the household, also run his auto repair shop, which the teenagers are hopelessly overwhelmed with. When social worker Rauh wanted to place 16-year-old Anna in a supervised shared apartment, Schreiber had already become violent. But when the detectives secured sensitive data on Rauh's computer, the investigation took an unexpected new direction.

Finn and Lars immediately launch a manhunt, and a search team led by experienced police officer Horst Felder combs the area. They find the man shot dead. There's no trace of the loot, half a million euros. At the forensic department, Finn Kiesewetter and Lars Englen learn from Dr. Strahl that the gunshot wound wasn't fatal, but rather that the man was suffocated with a jacket in the woods. This finding sheds new light on the investigation. Even though police officer Felder categorically rules out that one of his men could have taken the money, Finn and Lars must investigate within their own ranks.

20-year-old Nadine Torwald dies in a scooter accident. Forensic pathologist Dr. Strahl discovers that the brake hose was tampered with and the front tire punctured. Suspicion falls on Nadine's ex-boyfriend Marvin Kröger, with whom the victim had recently separated. Marvin confesses to inspectors Englen and Kiesewetter that he had a drunken argument with Nadine in a bar and damaged her scooter. However, since no intent to kill can be proven, he is released, much to the horror of Nadine's mother, Simone Torwald. She then launches a campaign of revenge. It is now up to Finn and Lars to prevent anything worse from happening and find Simone Thorwald as quickly as possible.

Just three days before the murder, he was sentenced to a million-dollar fine by the highest court, and now he faces bankruptcy. Schulz denies to the police officers any involvement in the crime. And he certainly isn't the only one Yilmaz has ruined with his lawsuits. The lawyer's younger brother unexpectedly shows up at Jenny's. Erkan was released from prison two weeks ago. He served three and a half years for robbery and assault, and it was his brother who refused to help him at the time. Behind bars, he threatened to kill Mesut as soon as he was released. Could he really have shot his own brother?

Together with his uncle Josef Kovac, alias Cheffe, Tschako collected debts using a hands-on approach. Most recently, Evi Candor enlisted the services of the two. The woman was in financial difficulties and hired the pair to finally collect her husband's outstanding alimony. However, Matthias Candor told the detectives that he was unable to pay because his shipyard was bankrupt. He also reported heated arguments between Tschako and his uncle. Cheffe suspected that his nephew was dealing prescription drugs on the side. When he discovers a drug depot in Tschako's apartment and a clue to the buyer of the goods, Cheffe starts his own campaign of revenge, bypassing the commissioners: He wants to bring the person responsible for his nephew's death to justice and in doing so puts not only himself in danger.

But forensic findings rule out Hanno as the perpetrator. Did someone want to pin the crime on Hanno? His wife Maura and son Sören become the focus of the investigation. Piano teacher Maura stands by her husband, even though their marriage is over. Sören feels only hatred for his father, because he wants to forbid him from studying art and otherwise shows no understanding for his son. He also despised his neighbor Bach. But did the sensitive boy really want to get rid of two unpleasant people at once?
