Episode 1

Kein Geld der Welt

47 mins

At a demolition site, homeless Jan Steinert observes a man hiding a green sports bag while fleeing the police. After the man disappears, Steinert finds the loot from a bank robbery: 53,000 euros. Unnoticed, Steinert takes the money and leaves the bag behind. The next morning, the body of a homeless man, known in the scene as "Dogge" because of his brutality, is discovered not far from the site. He had been severely abused and strangled. He is missing the little finger on one hand. Finn and Lars discover that the murdered man had attempted to rape the young homeless woman Kerstin two days earlier, which Steinert was able to prevent through his courageous intervention. Did Kerstin kill "Dogge" out of revenge? During interrogation, Kerstin confesses that she did cut off "Dogge's" finger because she wanted her ring back, which he had stolen. But she insists that "Dogge" was already dead. When the police find the sports bag from the bank robbery at the crime scene, the detectives start investigating in a different direction: Could "Dogge" have robbed the bank? Did Steinert kill "Dogge" and then take the loot from him? Steinert lives on the streets because, as a compulsive gambler, he gambled away his family's money. Perhaps he wants to use the loot to try to win back his wife and daughter, whom he misses terribly? But then Steinert is kidnapped.

When the detectives rush to his aid, he pulls out a gun and threatens them both. A scuffle ensues, a shot is fired, and the boy collapses. Emergency surgery saves his life, but Finn blames himself. Public Prosecutor Zobel nevertheless feels compelled to suspend him from duty; if they had acted according to regulations, the boy would never have been able to draw a gun. But why did the boy have a gun in the first place? Finn begins to investigate without a license plate. The seriously injured boy is Arthur Grün, the 14-year-old son of a Lübeck brothel owner, who is accused of forced prostitution. While Finn is in danger of losing his job because of his "private" investigation, Lars tries to find out more about Hauke Grün, Arthur's powerful father.
