With a bad feeling, Finn and Lars bring the young woman back to her apartment. Did the unstable-looking Mariam Kalkus just make it all up? When a dead woman matching Kalkus's description of the victim is found in Lübeck harbor the next morning, her observation is confirmed. But Kalkus has disappeared. The Lübeck Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team is doing everything it can to find the young woman.

Rasmus Haffner, whose life is shattered after the death of his son, comes under suspicion. Haffner is convinced that his son died due to medical malpractice by Chief Physician Wagner. Was he seeking revenge? But Haffner has an alibi. The detectives target the grieving husband after pathologist Strahl notices massive, partially healed injuries on the dead woman. But Mick Eckert, a young man who recently had a heated argument with the victim over a girl, is also a suspect. For Patrick's grieving mother, all of this is secondary. When she accidentally discovers that her son's heart now beats in 14-year-old Sarah, she seeks contact with her and her family. Sarah's father is anything but happy about this.

While in captivity, she gave birth to a daughter, but little Mimi disappeared with her tormentor, Klaus Wenzel. Wenzel apparently killed his mother in a fit of rage when she learned of his dark secret. Finn, Lars, and their colleagues from the Lübeck police station are doing everything they can to find Mimi and her kidnapper. But he has an evil plan.

The boat was apparently hit with a Molotov cocktail. But was it intentional, or did Lothar Klum become a murder victim by tragic coincidence, because the perpetrator didn't know anyone was on board? Fingerprints make 16-year-old Dirk a suspect. The boy flees before he can be questioned. His confiscated computer contains all sorts of videos of highly questionable pranks. But Dirk isn't alone in them. Public prosecutor Zobel recognizes Kai Jahnke, the son of a well-known Lübeck judge. Kai claims to have been at home the night of the crime, but Finn doesn't believe the boy and is suspicious of the seemingly obvious sequence of events. Do vandalism and violence fit with Dirk's other criminal record? Just as Finn and Lars are about to put Kai Jahnke under pressure, the wanted Dirk shows up at the police station and makes a confession. But Finn doesn't believe his words.

The missing medical records of five-year-old Emma Peters lead the detectives in a different direction. The deceased wanted to testify as a witness in a custody case. His appearance in court would have cost the father, Leif Peters, custody of his young daughter. The short-tempered Peters has no alibi for the time of the crime, and even his wife Hannah, who selflessly cares for the sick child, suspects he was capable of murder. But then Hansen suddenly disappeared. In his room, the detectives found evidence that he had built a bomb.

Suddenly, not only the case appears in a new light, but also the rescue of the girl requires the full commitment of the detectives.

That would have spelled doom for his daughter's pet project: an artists' residence for traumatized refugees in Berlin. Harmsen's wife, Eva, also arouses suspicion when she provides a false alibi. And his son, Alexander, suffered because his overpowering father never trusted him to run the company. But the fears about Frank's colleague Giselle Pape become reality; she is found dead. Schneider, who has been going to a small café instead of work for the past two months, has secretly met with his colleague several times. He claims to have previously lost his cell phone, which was used to take the photo of the dead woman; he has an alibi for the time of the crime. He remains stubbornly silent about everything else. Why didn't he tell his wife about his unemployment? Was the staid-looking accountant having an affair with Giselle? How did his cell phone end up next to her body? Even Gudrun Schneider doesn't know what to think. While examining the dead woman's computer, Finn and Lars are faced with another mystery: The young woman had purchased spy equipment from an online shop some time ago. But why? Did she and Schneider perhaps want to spy on company secrets? But then the detectives find evidence that Giselle Pape wanted to achieve something entirely different with the hidden camera.
